hey guys ... I was hoping for a little help

I am in the process of picking a color for an upcoming ArtLite hat that I am ordering ...

I've been staring at pictures on google images and in these threads for days

every time I think I have picked a color ... I see a picture and my mind changes

share with me our favorite ArtLite color ... and provide a pic if you could of that color

I'm completely torn ... and completely wide open to any of the colors other than black

looking forward to some input

thanks

Another fantastic color: DOVE...exceedingly versatile... goes with anything... I have one in Lite... (out of 8 VS) ... 6" OC, 2 3/8 brim. 22Lgn charcoal -grey/black ribbon very straight sides wide diamond bash... Art left the liner unattached so it can be removed ...
If I ever figure out how to post pix... I'll put all my lids up...

it's an expensive hat and I want it to be something I will wear a lot and not sit in a box like 95% of my hats :)

you are probably right though ... I am most likely overthinking it

would still like some input though ... I can't stare at pictures or 2 inch samples anymore

Well OK. I think that granite upthread is very cool. And it seems to be right up your alley.

Unfortunately, I can't contribute regarding color. I'm the most boring and unimaginative person in the world when it comes to clothing color. My wife says I don't own anything but brown and gray (I think I have some blue somewhere).

Sometimes I'll be dressed and we'll realize 'everything' I'm wearing is gray, even socks. My wife calls it my gray leisure suit. :)

That said, I agree with Frunobulax on that granite. I keep looking at it and thinking a bit. However, what is the Art Lite I see mentioned? I only see Joey, etc. on the website.

I have an order in for one in DOVE, but in Century felt. Mr. Fawcett informed me that this color is not currently available in Art-Lite, but I'm sure the dress-weight will work just fine for me. My first inclination is also for a charcoal ribbon, but I'll probably let Art make the final decision.

That's much darker than Stetson's light gray, if that's what you mean. I think it would look good with a contrasting ribbon.

I knew yours was that xtremely light grey but actually I was thinking of Moons Stetsonian. Wasnt that a sort of mid/darker grey?

Art's Granite is a really cool, hard to photograph color. Sometimes it seems to have green tones, sometimes a little brown or blue. It is most definitely versatile, and not just a shade of grey. I'm also a big fan of the Silvermist and Dove he uses. Frank

Maybe I'm a bit biased because green is my favorite color, but Forrest Green is a fairly versatile color. You can wear it with pretty much everything you can wear brown with as well as being able to wear it with black. Of course it is a little bit of an unconventional color by today's standards, but it is still my favorite color Art offers.

Perhaps. I forgot he had one. I like the complex colors, though. Versatile with different clothing.

Personally, I've been gravitating to light colored hats. Probably because they're hard to find in vintage.

Okay, well try to look at it like this.
Is there a hat that you have in mind that you always wanted?
Just in your imagination, if you close your eyes what does it look like.
You'll know more if you go on instinct that staring on tiny samples that all look the same after a while...

This might be a very girly way of approaching said issue, but it has always worked for me and other people who I've helped deciding on something you can't actually see before you. ( and that's a bunch of people)

I know it's hard since you have a lot of knowledge on the subject but humour me...

(Don't kill me if it's brown, I ain't the boss of your imagination ;) )

This process is confirming how much of a drab traditionalist I am as far as taste and desire for a certain look.

My heart wants a light gray with a black mid ribbon... sure , sounds boring... but it is my hearts desire.

Unfortunately there is no color like this currently available in the Lite Felt

the Lite Felt is what I most seek.

I'm leaning toward Sahara at the moment... either modeled after a similar colored Cavanagh I have with a sort of burgundy bow ... Or after one I have seen konaboy wear with a matching bow.

Knowing me I'll probably take the less bold route and go matching

I don't think traditional is bad or boring thing.
It's timeless and to me that is what a good hat should be.
And especially when they are expensive.
Don't worry too much about that, if you go against that feeling you'll end up with a hat you won't wear...

All if the above sound very nice, but I won't go for something that you already have.
Since it is such a special hat.
But that's just my two cents.

Is there a felt sort of in between grey and beige?
I find those colors are very versatile and go well with a burgundy ribbon.

My take is that, in seeing the hats you have, you seem to like darker, more earthier colors (browns, greens, tans, silverbellies, etc.). I'm sure you have others, but for whatever reason, when I think of you, I think of you wearing an earth tone thin ribbon. So, since you want this to get a lot of head time, perhaps something along those lines.

But this is a special hat - an Art-Lite. You likely want something "special" about it. A different type of ribbon, a different color, or whatever. But will you wear that hat as much as you'd like? My recent Gannon purchase, the Silvermist, is beautiful and I love to wear it; however, I have to admit it won't go with as many things I wear as many other hats. I kind of knew this going in. The Gus Miller I just got is a more neutral color, Bone, and I see myself wearing it a little more often. Though the Gannon will get a lot of winter head time, I predict, as I wear gray to work more often. That's why I suggested the Granite Rogera showed. It seems to hit on both the grays and the earth tones. A contrasting ribbon (burgundy, maybe?), and I think it would look wonderful.

I guess you have to sort of guess what you will do. Either way, you're getting a great hat from all reports.

Thanks for the input/therapy guys :)
Definitely helps

This is the Mallory I was talking about ... I mistakenly said Cav because I have one with a similar color scheme
... I love this combo and the mid ribbon

Then this is konaboys hat... we are talking strictly color here

An earth tone with a copper or bronze ribbon does look very nice. I'm considering a combo like that on my next Gannon. I'm a big fan of the contrasting ribbons, and I'm willing to take a chance on something unusual. But does "unusual" mean more heat time or less?

my thoughts exactly

thats why I feel a traditional grey with black ribbon might get a ton of head time on me ... again simply overthinking everything ... I'm aware of it all

I do wish Art still had the Silvermist or Dove available in ArtLite ... those colors are very attractive to me

but this sahara with (whatever color you would call that ribbon on my Mallory) burt rust ? ribbon is definitely growing on me

Jim, you put my thoughts in to words my friend!
Could not have said it better myself!

I have to say the hat I wear the most is the light beige with the rusty ribbon. It just works with everything.

The sahara will be very nice on you.
As you know I like contrasting ribbons, rust or burgundy will be very nice.
I think a blue toned ribbon could be pretty cool too, that way you can sort of pull out colder undertones in felt as well.
