Buying on eBay from Indonesia?

Any US members with experience buying on eBay from Indonesia? There is a seller there (tangkorak) who typically has a nice selection of vintage jackets. He has good eBay feedback, but I have read that Indonesia transactions are more prone to be scams or result in credit card theft. Am I being overly cautious?

Ebay requires PayPal so you should have no problems. I have bought from Indonesia with no problems.

It's always worth reading the feedback of any seller. I've seen instances of Chinese vendors with high perfect postitive feedback which didn't stand up to close scrutiny. They were comprised of penny sales to buyers who were no longer members of eBay. Slightly off subject I'm annoyed that sellers can no longer give negative feedback to buyers on eBay UK. My wife sold an item to a buyer who seemed to have high positive feedback except nearly all comments were extremely negative - non-payer comments.

As above, and looking at the account you've mentioned while its not that old it looks genuine and has what looks to be genuine feedback.

Tangkorak is a really cool guy. I think a few members from here actually bought from him? He's been selling jackets forever, some of which were real gems.
Is that genuine vintage jackets or 'new' vintage jackets made in Indonesian sweat shops ?

Genuine. Tangkorak is a great seller. Sells some real gems for an absolute steal. I can't forget that Vanson HH Enfield... Unfortunately, I couldn't make a PP transfer to Indonesia at the time, for some reason, so I had to skip.

Indonesian postal system kind of sucks (very long delivery time), better opt for EMS when there is an option to.

when US or UK do them they are called manufacturer, artisan, etc.
and when Asian do it they are called sweat shop.
I don't believe this is a reflection on the skills or integrity of the workforce....rather that they are probably underpaid and work in poor conditions for very long stints.I was a trade union member for many years.

Asia land of myth and legend
most manufacturers and factories close at 4PM here, construction workers work from 8AM - 3PM, and they all go home with mostly brand new motorcycles. I can't say about other countries but being fast and output oriented is not one of the trait found here
the shop who does my jacket would probably finish mine 2 months later while I don't see many or if any other jackets projects being built there, last time I ordered custom boots.. another local company promised me 1 month give and take, and it showed up today 12 months later because of so many reason and complication...
my package from ebay has been sitting in our local post office for almost 2 weeks... still not yet delivered
if anything bad I can say of my country is time has no or little essence here, maybe it is the climate:D

^ one company in Bali, I don't want to call them out in public in international forum, because even after ridiculous waiting time, and unresponsive communication, I finally got my boots, at first they missed the shape and botched up the detail the first time when I scrutiny the photo of the first boot the made about 6months after I ordered, and hardly being answered, and then this final one they totally remade is good/ good enough. I'm currently happy with my boots, but I don't dare to recommend to others... if you really want to know the company PM me.

I remember a big deal going on about how little one well known sports shoe manufacturer exploited child labour in Asia so took the children out of the work force. Inadvertently many of the children were drawn to the other major employer in the area to help support their families, the child sex industry.

Back on topic.
Yes the dreaded PayPal will usually refund your money if no goods arrive and if the items are faulty may even say keep the item if the seller won't pay for return, especially if it is an international transaction.

Thanks for all the feedback. Based on your comments, I went ahead and bought the shearling lined Schott Perfecto steerhide jacket I had been watching. It will need some minor stitching repairs, but if it's as pictured and described in the eBay listing, I should be pretty happy when it finally arrives.
