I'ts a bit early for dinner (4:30) but I just had homemade split pea soup. I am going to have some toast with forest fruits jam and then make a vanilla malted, which I have wanted all day. It's one of those foraging nights. Ah, who am I kidding? Every night is like that....

We "forage in the kitchen" about half the time and call it exactly that. It's just the two of us and I truly don't care that much what we eat, so if my girlfriend cooks, we have a meal (which she does half the time), if not, we just wander into the kitchen and cobble something together.

Last night was leftover grilled chicken breast on a semolina roll with some mayo and arugula and, for dessert, a piece of left over pecan pie (I jumped the gun on that purchase when I saw it in the bakery). Everything was out of the fridge, took a few minutes to put together, used up a bunch of stuff. "Foraging" is an efficient way to use up leftovers and prevent waste.

Home-made chicken soup, as we had extra meat and the carcass from a roasted chicken the day before. We also whipped up home-made cheesy garlic bread with some getting stale brown buns left over from a church supper!

One of the greatest transitions in life is nearly stale bread being turned into garlic bread / bread pudding / french toast / etc. Clearly an example of necessity being the very, very propitious mother of invention.
