A $14 bottle of Gruet, a sparkling wine (pricey for us, but it was Saturday night and we stayed in and ordered pizza, so hardly a crazy evening). As someone who likes champagne, but can't afford to buy it regularly, I've discover several not-crazy-priced sparkling whites that can be enjoyed with a normal meal, like our pizza last night.
Gruet has a dry taste with hints of fruits and minerals (nothing overwhelms), but it doesn't have the more robust (almost toasted wheat) flavor that champagnes have. It is still a nice wine with not-too-many bubbles (some sparklings go over board on the effervescence) - definitely good value.

I was in a celebratory mood because my mom's house sold the first day it was on the market, but a bit melancholy also. When the sale closes that will wrap up her/their estate so the chapter of their lives closes too.

Gotcha. This is tough ... happened with my Dad's folks, but my Mom's family farm is still with her brother. My wife solved the issue in regards to her late Mom's and Grandparent's houses by keeping both and putting our kids in them. The problem is she kept all their "stuff" as well -- much of it in storage. BTW -- I had some Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond last night (to get back on topic).

I prefer bourbon neat. Old Grand Dad is a bit of a strong flavor profile, so if you like bourbon on the rocks, this would be a prime candidate.

Several Founders Dirty ba***rd Scotch Ales. Nice mouth feel, pretty heavy & compex.
