My girlfriend got me a hardcover Tanaka book for my birthday last year (ebay I think). The thing came with all of these handwritten corrspondence letters from him to previous owner tucked away in pages. Honestly, it’s my most prized possession. When you are excited over having a piece of penwork from the author of a book about leather jackets, you just need to admit you are just a little bit carried away. :)

See you on Antiques Roadshow in 75 years.

That will be one heck of a jacket and I really like the x150. Please keep us posted.

It may cost less but if you start choosing lining, type of zipper, some or all measurement tweaks, etc. it will catch up and pass real quick.

Yeah I said if I asked for the exact jacket, just minus the HD stuff what would a rough estimate be? I’m sure I could make personal tweaks here and there but the first time I noticed that jacket I fell in love. I feel like if I started changing things I’d be super pumped then it would come and I’d feel like I screwed up the perfect thing. No need to change perfection. So we will see what they quote for the exact jacket minus HD.

It sure is nice. But I’m sticking with my Cycle. I think I enjoy the leather on that one more than this. But I will say Vanson does awesome collabs. The commando, the Union Garage, now this.

I find it fascinating that even after overhauling the website they’ve still decided to keep some of those horrible 80s-90s glamour shots. For example if you actually click on the Model C2 and look at the About This written section. Well yeah the first picture there....Vanson your website is at least marginally better, the about, the fit, the descriptions are all way better. Please reconsider some of your photo selections. I’m not looking for the 90210 jacket experience!

I have found that the older gents usually running a company sometimes take a bit of time to embrace “getting with the times”. I also bet that the mindset to build such a purpose-driven jacket sees “cosmetic” changes as just some dog and pony show. Last, they also think, it’s worked for 40 years, the heck I need an updated website for? These minor updates probably took a lot of convincing from the younger guys over there.
Baby steps.

From what I have experienced with the three Vansons I own, Vanson runs true to size, maybe even a bit tight.. If you have a 35.4" chest, you surely won't fit into a 32. I would go for a 34 or even a 36 (not sure how tight the chest is in the Arrow style).

I’m not exactly a kid anymore. I just turned 32 this month but I completely relate. I work in government/politics. I spend a lot of time convincing the over 40 crowd that they need twitter and Facebook. But why they say? Can’t we just knock doors, or throw money at it, or the honest ones who just say our goodwork will speak for itself. Yeah but if you’re not promoting said good work yourself, who is? Every baby step helps!

Ha, exactly yes. I have heard the same about social media and a preference for positive word of mouth. It’s hard to argue with their results over time though, and I get that too.

It is hard to argue the model. In the racing world, hardcore bikers and us loungers Vanson doesn’t need any social media they don’t need pr we know. But from a business perspective the youth market, the fashion market, the internet sales world they needed this overhaul.

Funny how much this sort of thing can affect marketing. I can certainly see why Aero are so long reluctant to show people in their jackets, modelling them, because of these issues...

I find it very funny for a company like Vanson. I would imagine their two biggest markets are professional racers/hardcore riders. And then not to be rude but the stereotypical beer belly Harley rider ha. And then a smaller portion would be jacket junkies like us who love them. But in none of these markets would I imagine the glamour shot, the Black and white, the stud on a bike with an 80s hair metal music video model, appealing to them. I like the new pictures with more average joes in the jackets. Schott has all the hipster models these days. But again I don’t think any market since like 1994 has wanted to see those photos.

Aero’s class is due to the presentation of their jackets sans model. Can’t explain it, but they have always had this wonderful aesthetic refinement to my eye-the website with the jackets being the center of focus rather than the jacket+model. I hope they never change it.

Different than a Goodwear which in turn works just as, if not more so effectively with John’s helpful fit pics. I think Aero/Eastman/HPA/Thurston/GW do a pretty fine job w/presentations. Each done diferently but well done nonetheless.

I agree about Aeros fit pics. Or lack thereof. It works for them. It also doesn’t hurt that their current team over there are responsive and courteous. Or even getting Aero jackets through TB Carrie and the TB team are so knowledgeable and helpful and when they don’t know will ask Aero for you. It takes a lot of pressure off the buyer and they don’t need fit pics for reassurances. But the overall site and layout itself could definitely use a bit of updating and streamlining.
