I've posted this before, but it's worth another look --
Note the early 1930's "Denver Style" station in the process of being replaced by a Teague Texaco. Although the Teague was introduced in 1937, it took many years for it to completely engulf the landscape.

I noticed that not much consideration was given as far as safety for the public with regards
to warning signs, cones or street barricades.
Except for gloves and boots, not much safety gear was worn by these guys with some having
cigarettes dangling from their mouths.
Great images of several '40s and '50s trucks which I have owned in the past.

Am enjoying and miss the atmosphere and attention to detail from these places from the past.
It may not have been the best of times, but I miss jumping on the running boards of these vehicles.

⇧ A few modern buildings have made me feel good - I just enjoy seeing them, going into them, etc. - but that is rare. Usually they leave me cold.
But something about the style, the thought, the approach of the architecture of the Era appeals to me at an emotional level as I loved those buildings before I ever thought about them or paid any attention to architecture.
Now I can talk about the materials, the style, the influences, the form-follow-function thingy, etc., - all the "reasons -" but that all came later. As a kid, I was simply drawn to "old" buildings but, rarely, new ones.
But something about the style, the thought, the approach of the architecture of the Era appeals to me at an emotional level as I loved those buildings before I ever thought about them or paid any attention to architecture.

I found a pair of coveralls at a local flea-market.
They were made by Sears Roebuck & Co.
Those photos are making me want to get up real early Sunday & take out my
1946 pickup and head on out to the small towns around here.
There's still some streets like that.
Not so much the gas stations though.

styles of gas stations available.
If I'm not mistaken, this was the Tudor style. But that's all I know.

The Pure Oil cottage was designed by Carl Petersen, a man who had no formal architectural training whatever. He had worked for Gulf in the early twenties, and had tried to sell them the cottage concept, but they didn't like it. Petersen landed at Pure in 1925, and they loved the cottage -- they used it or modifications of it for over twenty years. Even when they went to the "oblong icebox" style station in the 1950s, they tried to incorporate an abstract suggestion of the cottage.
