Hi, I'm new here. From Dublin, Ireland. bought my first felt hat just yesterday. It's a relatively inexpensive wool stetson made in china. I'm googling incessently trying to learn about hats.

Dude, we're talking about USAF contract work. Nobody is in charge!!

Oh, right!! I've been out of the prime contractor loop way too long. Having called on Raytheon, Norden, Hughes, Sikorsky, etc. in a past field engineer's life, I remember the chaos and pyramid-building everywhere. I was actually in the building on a call at Perkin Elmer in Danbury (where they made the Hubbell space telescope) on the day it was discovered that the telescope needed contact lenses. Never saw so many engineers scurrying about in a panic as that day. Bad timing for a sales call, though.

Again, you have outdone yourself, Alan. THE perfect hat for every occasion, and this one really stands out!

Note: Wasn't it yesterday she chose OS, say nothing about graduating already. Wow! this all happened fast!!! Mazel Tov, my friend.

Yeah, I've used steam to reshape paper straw hats. You have to be a bit more careful with straw than with felt, but the heat and moisture allows the straw to be shaped similarly to how felt is. Straw hats start out much the same as felt hats -- a cap that is then steamed on a block or mold.

I just use a spray bottle with H2O on my straws. Been working well for many years.
