It's a 'granddad vest'. In modern speak the top part of thermal underwear by a manufacturer such as Damart. There was a fashion for these dyed various colours when I was a lad.

It's the gloves that have me scratching my head... oddly, they're a band that, Charlie aside, aged pretty poorly. I don't know if it's the lifestyle, but by the mid-70s they just looked worn out.

Are all of those buttons actual buttons which need to be individually buttoned up?

If I had to button up that many buttons, I'd roll back into bed on account of the herculean effort expended.

I had something similar in the early 90s; think I bought it in C&A when they were still in Belfast. Mine only buttoned half way down. Used to wear it under an open lumberjack shirt in me grunge days....

I think Keef has sort of grown into his face. Being a worn out looking man-raisin suits him. Jagger has gotten ridiculous, so pompous, no sense of humour. Wood is just a sad old man now. I always thought of Charlie as a suave, one eyebrow-raised Ford Prefect surrounded by Beeblebroxes...

Poor Keith. Looking at that sad, ravaged face of his today, I'm not sure the money, the fame and the various earthly pleasures were really worth it. Despite the distortions of fame, he does seem a likeable rogue and has retained his passion for the blues. That's worth something.

Her certainly seems to think it was! Not many old rock stars come across quite as jolly as him. I totally agree on his passion, though.... I could sit at Keef's feet in his library and listen to him talk about music for hours. Fascinating guy - a genuine autodidact.

The Stones have had such way-out-into-orbit lives that normal human assessment meters don't really work.

Kieth - and he's the first to admit it - is lucky every day he breathes (I think he still does that) based on what he's done to his body
Mick seemed to choose women as his drug of choice and has the scattered children and settlement payments to show for it
Ronnie, IMHO, never really grew up or at least out of the '70s - but he can play guitar
Wyman's wife-mother-son-marriage triangle was enough crazy for any one life and that doesn't even include his Stones' shenanigans
Charlie, who I believe had a heroin addiction for years and beat it, can't be celebrated enough for his skills as a drummer or for his personal sartorial style
And, let's not forget, one didn't make it - Brian Jones

By the late '60s, the Stone's embraced the rebel / hippie / flower power / whatever style of the time and proceeded from there to dress as rockstars, but their early '60s look had a lot of classic Ivy / traditional British style to it. It's fun to see those early clips with Mick in a sport coat and button-down-collar shirt or Keith in a turtleneck and dress slacks.

I remember those shirts well and had a few myself. This was around 1970. They had buttons sewn on the front and you just slipped them over your head like a t-shirt. One of those and a pair of wine-colored velvet flares and you were all set. Purple snakeskin boots, too, with crimson heels.
