The last time I was in Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, they told me that's where all the vintage instruments were going.
yup ... it's unfortunate really

I've been outbid on so many sets of 50s and 60s Gretsch kits that ended up in Japan ... I mean they had gone so far beyond what they are worth with their bids that is was ridiculous so I was forced to research what was going on ... and sure enough

then I see them a few months later back on the market from Japan at completely out of bounds prices ... like ridiculous prices ... think timothiescloset ... yeah ... like that

it is great to have people like Steve Maxwell who has the money to not allow that to happen sometimes ... Steve is one of the only guys in this country truly doing something to keep the instruments here

I have guys contacting me all the time for my Gretsch kits from Japan offering me crazy money ... I don't sell them on principle

Showing off! I thought I saw you walking down Broad Street in Center City Philly today! Great hat and coat combo! The goods on the coat, please? it's a beauty.
Thanks D. Can't tell you much about the coat. It has two labels, one is Excelsior -London, Paris, New York, and the other is jean d'albe - Paris. My Google-fu doesn't produce anything on either one. Made in France of 100% wool. It is an interesting tweed and also has some unusual construction techniques.

Nice looking piece of material. Do you do your own tailoring? You seem to always have perfect fit and sleeve length on all of those overcoats!

Yes, it is interesting. To my poor eyes it more or less appears white and black, but when you get up close the black is actually a mix of grey and green and a sort of plummy brown. Doing my own tailoring is something I wish I did, but have so far proved to lazy to do. Ha ha. Fortunately, overcoats are fairly forgiving on fit. Sport jackets and coats are much less so. Last night I did hem the pants I was wearing today, if that counts.

Thanks,
Michael

Lucky you! My odd sized frame always needs adjustment and I leave those alterations to professionals.
