Beginning 12. August I will be in Columbia, SC, working on my Master's degree. If any members are familiar with the area, I would greatly appreciate suggestions for things to see and do. I have not spent any great time in the South since I lived in Atlanta six years ago, and I'm very excited...
I wasn't sure where to post this, so it goes in the OB...
What is forum etiquette regarding the posting of lengthy passages from a book? And what is permissible under copyright? The book I have in mind is about 70 years old.
This may not be news to anyone else, but the trusty clothing brush does a great job of removing the fuzzballs from a sweater. Several sources recommended shaving them off, but that struck me as strange and tedious.
What do you do?

The fellow who jumped out at me is the one standing right of center:
wearing what I think is a stiff rounded collar of medium height, high-closure single-breasted overcoat, skinny tie, and cap. He looks...
My first pair of ebay shoes is a bit too narrow. Can they be stretched a bit, or am I better off reselling them? They are 10 D, and I think I need 10 E. However, the size break for shoe trees is 10 D / E, so I was thinking perhaps I could stretch them with the larger trees.

From Grandma:

What a pleasant surprise!
I stopped at the 76 on my way home today to tank up. Since my tank is on the passenger side (I drive a Subaru) I normally get out to stretch my legs instead of making the attendant walk around the car. (for some strange reason, it is illegal to operate the pump...
I was walking about downtown Portland with my girlfriend yesterday, enjoying the beautiful day. She has always wanted a hat, so we asked at John Helmer if they knew of a good place to look, and the salesgirl very helpfully directed us to Pinkham Millinery only a few blocks away. The stock there...
The general public is obviously not the best guide in such matters, but the only leather I have seen lately is on bikers, and the only other reference that comes to my mind is aircrew.
What do you typically wear with your flight jackets, bomber jackets, or other leather? I'd love to hear your...
(I hope this is the correct forum for this; if not, I apologize!)
My mother and I were going through some of her father's things that she saved, and we found this jacket. Her immediate comment when I put it on was that it looked funny on me, but couldn't say why. I'm hoping you can.
