The singing of the famous Robert Burns song "Auld Lang Syne" at the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve is a tradition becoming more and more honored in the breach than the obervance these days. Often associated with the fairly nauseating rendition popularized by Guy Lombardo, the tradition goes back well over a century. I plan to break into a full throated warble at the appropriate time tomorrow night, and I hope all good Loungers will also. Here's the Wikipedia article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auld_Lang_Syne

And here are the words, all 5 verses (I think one verse should be PLENTY, but if you get inspired, go for it!):

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne ?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you’ll buy your pint cup !
And surely I’ll buy mine !
And we'll take a cup o’ kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine ;
But we’ve wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine† ;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

CHORUS

And there’s a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o’ thine !
And we’ll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

CHORUS

Happy New Year, everybody!

Another New Year's themed song,
Frank Loesser's "What Are You Doing New Years Eve".

Here's Diana Krall's version. Enjoy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU_BBNeumLI

When the bells all ring
And the horns all blow
And the coubles we know
Are fondly kissing
Will I be with you
Or will I be amoung the missing

Maybe it's much too early in the game
Oh, but I thought I'd ask you just the same.
What are you doing New Year's... New Year's eve?

Wonder whose arms will hold you good and tight
When it's exactly twelve o'clock that night?
Welcoming in the New Year... New Year's eve

Maybe I'm crazy to suppose
I'd ever be the one you chose ...
Out of the thousand invitations you'll received ?
But in case I stand one little chance,
Here comes the jackpot question in advance...
What are you doing New Year's... New Year's Eve?

Out of the thousand invitations you'll received ?
Oh, but in case I stand one little chance,
Here comes the jackpot question in advance...
What are you doing New Year's... New Year's Eve?
What are you doing New Year's Eve

This is the version my father taught me:

There was a man named Mister Lang
He had a neon sign
Mister Lang was very old
So we called it Old Lang's Sign
