black sweat band

I bought A stetson 3x beaver selv-edge hat with a black sweat band.I was wondering was black used in the 30's and 40's. I thought I read black came out in the the 50's?

Yes black was used. Page 79 in the Stetson Book shows a hat owned by Buck Jones with a black band. I owned a Stevens that was manufactured in the early 50's that had a black sweatband as well.

You sometimes saw black used in the '30s, but the texture, embossing, markings, and reeding was different than the black sweatbands used by stetson starting in the late 1950s.

A photo could determine which it is.
