Has anyone tried to dye a hat?

I have a hat I like, a lot but I'm not crazy about the fact it's an off white. is there a way to successfully dye it brown??

I have dyed fur felt before with success. I did, however, fully disassemble the hat beforehand, and reblocked it after. Due to the high temperatures needed to make the dye for protein fibers work properly, trying it with sweatband in and without a block to dry it on after would not be a good idea.
