Anyone remember a film with Ronald Reagan where he was dressed a lot like Indy? I've only seen a photo of him in a boat with a Chinese kid, on a river in what looks like a jungle. He's wearing a leather jacket, fedora, etc, and is holding what looks like an idol.

Been looking for that one.

I think that the movie you are referring to is called "Hong Kong" (1952). I don't think that it's available on video yet. I saw it once on TCM, but that was years ago.

Yup, Mr.President had the look first (along with Chuck Heston and Clark Gable and...)

You're right, people forget how the "Indy look" was quite normal at one time. My uncle Armando used to dress like that even into the 70's. I remember him always having on a hat.

Yeah, Gable totally had it in "Too Hot to Handle", among several others. He practically patented the look.
But then again, so did my Grandpa, back in the late 20's! (See avatar.)
