Lashing a felt down

When reblocking or shaping a hat on a block, the felt is usually tied to the block at the lowest point.

Is this just plain nylon cord, or is there a particular hatmaking cord I need? Is there a particular way to tie this cord?

What you are alluding to, is for reducing the size of the crown. (I personally use a leather belt, preset to the proper outer circumference.) If you are stretching or just reblocking to the same size, there is no need to "bind" the felt, at the base of the crown. :)

Found it, finally.

They're at hatsupply.com, but not in the menu of products. They're called block ties. Leko can provide them.

Simple, but I wasn't sure, as I saw terms like hatter's cord, blocking cord, hat twine and millinary tether.
Sheesh.

Thanks for the pointers on when to use what, JT. The belt idea is interesting, especially as I have some elastic woven belts, thin ones.
