Magnoli's neckties!

Figured I'd start a thread in light of that Mr. Magnoli has introduced Custom Neckties to his line of ties. I'm digging it, especially the choices of shape, width, and length.

So, as for the ties, how are they constructed? And could we use one of the tweeds? Additionally, what's the Officer's Tie fabric made of?

Let's see... you can use any material you see on my site including the tweeds. Each custom tie is handmade-to-order (hence the higher price). The Officer's Tie is constructed from a custom made microfibre specifically designed to simulate Irish poplin.

My matte black necktie is made from a thin black gabardine wool--maybe something like that would be better than microfibre (aka polyester)?

Eastman supplies a wool gab tie with their officer's shirts of the same material. It has a nice hand but tends to make a crinkly knot.

Yeah, I have no idea what microfibre is composed of. I've heard anything from polyester to cotton.

Asking what microfiber is made of is kind of like asking what paint is made of. There are different formulae. All they have in common is that the fibers are less than 1 denier in diameter.

Most clothing microfibers are polyester, but they can also be nylon or acrylic. http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/5000/5546.html has more info.

Ah, okay. I know synthetics have their place, but I've always had a stigma about them and dress clothing. Just doesn't seem right to me.

...would Magnoli's perhaps recut modern day straight ties to the vintage taper and length?

I'm pretty sure any alterations place near you, or even just somebody who sews, could do that.
