It could be worthwhile asking ODK if they have other colours ( Maroon) in stock thats not on the website, i know when i worked there we used to have ends of contract sweaters in the warehouse in all different colours.

As mentioned above, I did contact Outdoor Knitwear and they came up trumps. As today the postman bought three Woolly Pullys that I ordered from them, a maroon vee neck, peat brown vee neck and moss green crew neck which is sort of between army/olive green and bottle green. In due course I will order a peat brown crew neck and maroon crew neck which they indicate may be coming on line soon. I was very impressed with the speed of their service, I only ordered these a few days ago and they had to add epps and pen pockets. They are a good fit and fantastic sweaters and a great firm to deal with.

I have one that an Air Force friend of mine got new for me during a layover in the UK. It was made by Citadel, and it is RAF blue, is a v-neck, and has epaulets. It keeps one snug and comfortable on cold days, and I like the way I look when I wear it. If I only had a Spitfire or Hurricane to go with it!

I Agree, that sounds a great sweater you have there, (I guess you will have to await for a big casino win to get the Hurricane or Spit.)

If anyone is interested, the Outdoor Knitwear website, as well as having a good section for the Military Woolly Pully's, now has a new section for nautical themed men's knitwear, under Niffi Nautical, they certainly look great sweaters. Rgds.

If anyone is in the Staines, Middlesex area, South West of London, there is a guy running a market stall on Wednesdays and perhaps other days too, who is selling various Woolly Pullys, most in 100 % wool, good standard and good prices, ideal for relaxing around the house or doing things like gardening, DIY etc. Rgds.

So hilarious! I was an army reservist (Canadian Army) for 8 years; I was issued one of those when I first joined, and I never once wore it in my entire military career. The one and only time I ever wore it was actually in my civillian work as a security guard several years ago when I had to patrol outside in sub zero temps and wore it UNDER my uniform. Hated the thing and still think they're ugly as sin.

It's great that people like em though. More power to ya; you can get them at probably any army surplus store in Canada in either dark green or blue.

Slightly off-topic but hilarious. There are a number of versions doing the rounds and this one contains a reference to Woolly Pullies.

Things to consider whilst adjusting to Civvy street:

1. Speech:
•Time should never begin with a zero or end in a hundred; it is not 0530 or 1400. It is 5:30am or 2 in the afternoon.
•Words like "pit", and "PT" will get you weird looks; use bed, workout, get used to it.
•"****" cannot be used to replace whatever word you can't think of right now. Try "um" instead.
•It's a phone, not a radio, conversations on a phone do not end in "Roger That" or "Out"
•People will not know what you are talking about if you tell them you are coming from Dalton Bks with the CP platoon or that you spent a deployment with the RN.... no more acronyms

2. Style:
•Do not put creases in your jeans.
•Do not put creases on the front of your dress shirts.
•Do not refer to your suits numerically; your best jacket and trousers are not your number 1's
•Wear your Woolly Pully with pride!

3. Women:
•Being divorced twice by the time you are 23 is not normal. Neither are 6 month marriages, even if it is your first.
•Marrying a girl so that you can move out of the barracks does not make "financial sense". It makes you a retard.

4. Personal accomplishments:
•In the real world, being able to do lots of press-ups will not lead to automatic promotion or help your career in any way.
•Most people will be slightly disturbed by you if you tell them about people you have killed or seen die.
•How much pain you can take is not a personal accomplishment.

5. Drinking:
•NATO is an organisation, not the way you want your tea made
•In the real world, being drunk before 5pm will get you a written warning (or sacked), not a pat on the back from your boss.
•Shouting "Naked Bar" at your works Christmas party will have no effect.
•That time you drank a bottle of Absinth and shat in your pals suitcase is not a conversation starter.
•That time you went to the combat life saver school and practiced giving vodka iv's will probably not impress a civilian.

6. Bodily functions:
•Farting on your co-workers and then laughing hysterically while you walk away may be viewed as "unprofessional".
•The size of the dump you took yesterday will not be funny regardless of how big it was, how much it burned, how much it smelled..... or how clear the photo is.
•You can't make fun of someone for their disability, no matter how funny the ailment is.
•VD will also not be funny.

7. The human body:
•Most people will not want to hear about or see your balls. Odd as that may seem, it's true.
•If your arse is sore, don't ask your colleague on the next desk if he can see what's wrong with it.

8. Spending Habits
•One day, you will have to pay for the things that keep you alive; heat, light, shelter, food, doctor, etc, etc
•Buying a £30,000 car on a £16,000 a year salary is a really, really stupid idea.
•Spending money on video games instead of on nappies makes you a twat.

9. Interacting with civilians:
•Making fun of your neighbour to his face for being fat will not make you popular in the neighbourhood.

10. Real jobs:
•They really can fire you. On the flip side you really can quit.
•Screaming at the people that work for you will not be normal. Remember they really can quit too. You can't tell your secretary to "follow it down" if she drops her pen. And taking naps at work will not be acceptable.
•Sport is no longer part of your working week. Wednesday afternoons are for work, just like every other afternoon

11. The Law:
•Your civvy boss, unlike your C/O, can't save you and probably won't. In fact most likely you will be fired about 5 minutes after he finds out you've been arrested.
•Even McDonalds do background checks, and "conviction" isn't going to help you get the job
•Fighting is not a normal thing and will get you really arrested and/or fired, not yelled at Monday on morning before being asked if you won.

12. General knowledge:
•You can in fact really say what you think about the Queen in public.
•Pain is not weakness leaving the body. It's just pain.
•They won't wear anything shiny that tells you they are more important then you are. Be polite.
•You no longer have to go to the POL point; just go to the BP garage like everyone else

Finally
13. Read the contracts before you sign them - remember what happened the first time...!!!

The recent cool spell here in the South East of the UK, has meant a return to Woolly Pully wearing in the past few days, I had my black one on today at the Charity Shop where I do some voluntary work pending re-employment and was complimented on the smart look by a customer. It's always very pleasing to have positive comments.

Only just discovered this wonderful thread.

Another great fan of the woolly pully. I have two: an original 80s RAF issue crewneck one with the pen pocket on the arm; and an Outdoor Knitwear one in RAF blue-grey. Fantastic jumpers, very, very hard-wearing and very good for autumn hunting or fishing trips. Both of mine are getting a lot of use currently in the cold winter weather down here.

Welcome to this thread, it is amazing the range of subjects on this forum, there is also a similar thread in WW11, regarding the white roll neck older RAF/Submariners Sweaters. I have a number of Woolly Pullys which get a lot of wear in the cooler months and during the winter. You are correct they are fantastic, very long lasting and hardwearing. What part of the world are you now that you are getting winter weather. Rgds.

The south coast of Oz Stevieboy where it's been pretty nippy of late.

Also woolly-pully related, my in-laws over in Norway wear the Norwegian versions regularly for hunting trips and mucking around their holiday cottages. Most Norwegian men seem to have come into contact with them from their days in the military with their national service.

Oh yes, I guess it would be chilly now on the South Coast of Oz. A nice part of the world from what I hear. I have visited other parts of Australia, including Tasmania, but apart from changing aircraft at Melbourne, I have not spent any time down there. I would like to visit the cities of Melbourne and Adelaide, the wine making areas and Puffing Billy steam railway (If it still runs),would be of particular interest to me, along with the Indian Pacific and Ghan Trains. Maybe someday, if I either ever get back into proper paid employment, or come up on the lottery!

They do have some great sweaters in Norway, not surprising as it can get rather cold to say the least there. Another great country which I have visited, the fjords/cruises and mountains are fantastic.

Hi Stevie,

If you ever make it down this way I'll shout you a pint.

Actually we're off to Norway for a month's holiday in the (northern) autumn which will entail at least one grouse shoot to which I will definitely be wearing one of my woolly pullies!

Not a military one but I have one from the British Royal Mail in "NATO-style", made of thick wool and haves a V-neck. It's warm and comfy to wear.
