I got this close to mint condition 1940's Stetson a few weeks ago. The ribbon never looked quite " Stetson" to me. I just noticed this morning that the word "Stratoliner" is on the sweatband. Whoever replaced the ribbon did a very nice job!

"Yes, moe, there is a Santa Claus. She lives in Canada and sells on Etsy."
OK, I know that's not how that old classic editorial went, but it's how I felt when this package arrived yesterday afternoon.

It felt even more like Christmas when I pulled this out of that festively wrapped box.

I know I said that Adam Homburg was my Christmas gift to myself, but while waiting for it to arrive, this one came up on Etsy.
And one does not simply walk away from an affordable green Whippet. I hit the buy button so fast I almost put a hole in my tablet screen.

You can see the end of the price portion of the tag where I thought I tucked it back under when it fell out while turning out the nice supple sweatband. Here is a pic of it.

While it is marked as a 7 1/8, it almost fits my big 7 1/4 with just a little stretching on my head. No real sizing up required.

The crown is 5 1/4", the brim 2 1/2". 126g. The felt is extremely malleable, thin and dense with a nice soft hand and my favorite hat color to boot! Now I'm starting to see what all the fuss is about.
From clues and a little research I'm guessing '53 to '55.
Any opinions confirming or refuting this welcome!

I think you're over the legal limit there on Xmas presents. Better release one back to the stream. The Whippet is a gem.

Thanks Harv! Been looking for an affordable Whippet for a long time, the green us a great bonus!

Thanks Roger! That $10 price helps to narrow it down.

Thanks Michael! If Santa wants that Adam back he has to fight me for it. And I fight dirty for an Adam homburg...:D

Thanks Jim! The ribbon looks (to my bad eyes) to be a dark green-grey color. I'll get better color pics when sunshine returns.

Wow John! I'm happy that Santa saw fit to visit early. That is one incredible hat. A vintage Whippet has been on my covet list for a while, I can live vicariously through your good fortune. Minty!

I've been looking for one for years. I'd given up on finding one that I wouldn't have to break the bank for. Or be nervous about wearing it...
I certainly hope you find one sooner rather than later.:)

I've learned (and relearned) that somethings should not be bought at JoS A Banks regardless of the price. Somethings are safe. Personally, I wouldn't buy a suit from them, but ties are fine if you find one you like. I also would never buy anything from them unless it is at least 60-70% off which happens all the time. Hats from them are a new proposition for me. For a Toyo "straw" I'm not expecting much so I probably won't be disappointed. Still, I'd rather have paid $8 like you did so I could think of it as a completely disposable item. Thanks again for the tip.

I agree with you on the quality of most JAB items. I only buy select items from them when they're massively discounted. This hat fits that category. I consider it something to wear with a seersucker suit or blazer during the warm summer months. Made in the USA for $8. Can't really go wrong.

If you buy one, I'd be interested in your evaluation of the product. There are certainly people here with more knowledge of hats than myself.
