Question about belt loops

Very true Guppy. The only time I would actually use a belt would be cold, rainy days to keep the weather out. I am not really sure if the belt actually helps or not.
They're not necessary. A bit of overkill but in the event you hit the pavement it'll reinforce the base of the zipper, which would help keep the jacket closed, and that's a good thing. But I think zippers are strong enough by themselves that this is a optional measure.

if you left the buckle hanging while storing the jacket overtime the front loop where the buckle hang would still misaligned I guess since leather stretch and sag a little (just guessing)

the function of belt probably to seal warmth inside and perhaps to weigh the jacket down so it doesnt easily rides up perhaps
