Open Road with a WIDE RIBBON![huh] What is the world coming too!? That's the second one this week! Yes, it's nice...very nice, in fact the triple brim stitching holds special appeal for me..but, for the love of Pete, a wide ribbon, like a big black mourning band around that beautiful crown. Oh, well...hope you like your Open Road, Douglas. It's a very nice hat..it's...special.;)

Man oh man oh man, that is the coolest hat I think I've seen on the lounge. You wear it well.
I like this style open road a whole lot more than the later style thin ribbon ones.

BK, as far as I can tell the ribbon is original to the hat. The tacks are still in place and the color is bit lighter behind it at the same place as the ribbon is.

Here's an ad for the 1937 stetson Air light.

The Open Road looks like the gray one with the brown jacket ,it has the same bow detail as mine.
I will be wearing mine with a brown jacket to the Memorial Day Concert this weekend.

Dinerman's ad says:

Left yellow box: Only two ounces of felt in these versatile Air-Light styles. Stetson's "Whippet" shown with the "Tailored Edge," is an advanced style -- at a new price -- $7.50.

Right yellow box: From Old Westbury to Sanata Barbara, these new Air-Light hats are seen at the fastest games. Left: a low-creased crown and full brim distinguish Steytson's "Open Road" -- $6. Right: "Casino," in pewter gray, is a Superior Air-Light, finished with the exclusive Selv-Edge -- $10.

From the sheen on it I bet it has gotten a good shellacing. I am counting on it being waterproof. There is no way I will wear the Montecristi in the rain.

Another interesting find Douglas. I' ve been rather hesistant about buying vintage straws online because many of them are dried out from many years of being stored away incorrectly. I'll bet there are some very fine monticristi's out there waiting to be found.

I suspect that this hat is not flexible at all. the shape would be damn near impossible to change. That is fine with me as I like the look and I really need a durable alterative to fine straw.
Dinerman had the same exact hat as this one a while ago. This may be the same one, although his was not a 7-1/4 I think. I can't imagine they would be able to stretch a hat like this too much with out it being damaged but we will see.
