Like selfmade "After Eight-Liquor", which was very popular in socialism, here. Mixes of peppermint-liquor, mocca/coffee-liquor/corn-schnapps, (brown) sugar and cacao and so on.

I like apple schnapps. Berentzen ApfelKorn is a particularly welcome digestif at my dinner parties. We don't sit around chugging it, but it's smooth to sip on when we move the conversation from the table to the living room.

I'm not a fan of anything "peach flavored". I love peaches, but don't like anything other than the real fruit. Strawberries are the same way. Anything "strawberry flavored" tastes to me like perfume.

The most common "strawberry flavor" component in consumer products is ethyl methylphenylglycidate, which is also a component in many perfumes. Yummy!

I hear ya and would add that almost anything cherry-flavored tastes like cough syrup to me.
To my taste buds, almost all schnapps / "liqueurs" are too sweet and taste fake or, as you said, "perfumey". Other than in a mixed drink or for baking / cooking, our bottles of those sit idle.
N.B. a few years back, I had the flu and, oddly, found I enjoyed a shot or two of butterscotch liqueur - but once I was better, I didn't like it anymore - it went back to tasting fake.

"Bitter" ("stomach-bitter" liquor), typical 40% alc.. Still available, but the term is dying out, here in Germany. It's not in the lanuage-use of the younger generation.

There are some liqueurs I like, others I don't. The aforementioned apple schnapps...love it. Limoncello? Absolutely. Amaretto? Everyday and twice on Sundays. Can't stand anything peppermint, or licorice (even though I love real licorice), or banana, or butterscotch... To me, it's a matter of the circumstance. A nice liqueur with some good conversation is a good way to end a nice meal. But I couldn't just drink it like I'd drink a beer or a glass of wine.
I remember when a friend of mine decades ago was going through a divorce, he lived on the stuff, minus the cocoa of course. Can't stand the smell of it to this day!

Straight up, it's a sickeningly sweet concoction. And I found that high sugar drinks gave me the worst hangovers. Too much rich ice cream has the same effect on me, the day after.

As a collector and avid reader of antique and very vintage books on millinery, hat making, sewing, home arts, general house decor, upholstery and home restorations, I often read the following phrase when following directions and instructions on a given project:
"You can find all the needed supplies at any of your local notions counters"

So, do you have a local notions counter in your town?
I remember when I was little, seeing signs for "Notions " at J.J. Newberrys and other five and dime stores.
So that is a term I never hear anymore. I wish it was that easy to find some of the vintage supplies they reference in these old books!

"Notions"are the same thing as "sundries" only diffirent.
