Triangular pocket reinforcer bits

So, I noticed that some makers stitch these on at the sides of slash pockets, and they seem to be inner 'outlined' or externalised. I presume that they're purely aesthetic in the case of heavier hides, but can/should they go on chest slash pockets, too? Would you want them on hand warmers and an outer chest slash pocket?

I like them and they actually are good at reinforcing stitches. Leather pants generally have them, too, at the bottom of the zipper. It's a nice detail, I would say.
