IMHO..Connery captured that raw caveman crudeness easily underlying a more refined suave finesse. Others seemed to lean toward too much macho...or exuded a hint of comical prissiness. One would never mistake Connery for a sissy...even if he was holding a teacup...wearing a kilt. He made an unfinished classiness quite acceptable for Bond.

Seam Connery defined the role and will always be the one everyone is compared to. Best of the best.
George Lazenby wasn't bad but his biggest problem was being the first to follow Sean Connery. Who can compare ?
Roger Moore, in my opinion, was a poor Bond. He was pretty but didn't have the physical presence like Sean (again). And I really liked him as The Saint, just not as James Bond.
Timothy Dalton was good, but again, too short and lacked charisma. James Bond should dominate a room when he enters and Dalton was just too small.
Pierce Brosnan was a pleasant surprise. I didn't think he could carry it but I liked how he handled the role. Not Sean Connery, but likable anyway.
Daniel Craig is a pleasant surprise too. He's more in the mold of Sean Connery because he's physical and isn't always the nice guy; more of a man's man in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed Casino Royale and look forward to his next movie, if there is one. I read that he wasn't too happy to do the movie and took it because it included a role in another feature. Hope to see him again as James Bond soon.
Any others ? Who cares ?

I always thought Adrian Paul from the Highlander TV series would have made an excellent bond, and possibly the best successor to Connery's Bond persona, as there is a slight resemblance there, not only in physical appearance, but also in presence and style.

I wonder if the role was ever offered to him, and if not, why?

Agreed!
The first time I saw a picture of him, I thought he was Sean Connery!
He definitely has the presence and physique for the role.

Daniel Craig is new Bond!

Just saw the new Bondmovie yesterday.
I must admit that Sean Connery always have been my kind of Bond - but Daniel Craig grabbed the title yesterday.
Vulnerable, believable and underplayed.:eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

Sean Connery was the original, and the best. He personified the cool, guileless, brutal spy. Without remorse, without concern. But having seen the new Bond yesterday, I must say that Daniel Craig has definitely captured the essence of the character. Bond is back, and he is BADA$$!

My wife and I wondered the same thing. We think he'd have been a fitting heir to the throne!

No, no, no and no! lol

A passing resemblance does not qualify someone as a fitting replacement. I've seen an episode of Highlander with him in it and all I can say is that I hope he spent his wages on acting lessons.

I remember reading that Adrian Paul was one of the guys mentioned in rumors when they first announced that someone new was going to play Bond. I saw his name mentioned by someone on one of the Bond websites like MI6.com. A couple other peoples names were thrown around like the guy from King Arthur, Clive Owen.
I think Daniel Craig did an awesome job. :eusa_clap

I definitely feel the right choice was made. Clive Owen has the capacity to be an excellent actor (I liked him in Gosford Park) but I don't think he has that certain Bondliness that Craig has. Which is why he wasn't chosen, I suspect!

221b - love your av! Brett was THE Holmes! :D

After seeing Casino Royale last night I think Sean Connery and Daniel Craig are neck and neck. I can understand that comments that it's not a traditional bond film but I like that - always used to nod off half way through as they got a bit same-y! The worst Bond without a doubt - Pierce Brosnan - far too slimy. I like a rough cut diamond like Daniel Craig or Connery!

Thanks GOK! I love the Granada series. Jeremy Brett is my favorite Holmes. How's the weather across the pond?

:eek:fftopic: Spiffing old chap, quite spiffing. Unusually warm for the time of year and not a pea souper in sight!

Normal service may now be resumed! ;)
