Unfortunately, it came with some side-affects like the boxes around the posts and all these other un-wanted things. I don't like the changes one bit, but I don't think that it is an option to have it changed back.

This happens with any major software upgrade. Programmers take the opportunity to incorporate a new "look and feel" for many reasons, including providing a visual confirmation that the software has indeed been updated, to take advantage of new programming techniques, to incorporate current "fashion", to make it look new and exciting, and sometimes it's just change for change's sake--in other words, just like any other updated product. Of course, we as humans tend to become comfortable with something once we've been using it for a while and regardless of what anyone says we tend to resist change. What was that book--"Who Moved My Cheese?"

I'm still grumbling to myself about the changes made to MS Office when Office 2007 came out! :) As a user there are some things that make me wonder why the heck the design team thought that was a good idea... but to get the updates we have to put up with most of the other changes.

I'm with the others who say let's wait for the team to finish getting the engine running smoothly before we worry too much about adding pinstriping to the paint job!

Cheers,
Tom

PS When I tried posting the above my browser (IE8 running on XP 64bit) acted up and it appeared the post didn't happen--when I clicked on the button to post it a second time I got a message informing me that the post was a duplicate and the I would be redirected to the thread. If I recall correctly this duplicate post prevention is new... and another good reason for the upgrade!

First I want to say thank you to any and all who put the time into doing this upgrade. Whether I like it or not I still appreciate your effort. In the future it would be nice to know ahead of time that my subscriptions were going to get wiped out. This may have been communicated in one or more threads, but I think something in the form of a mass private message would be beneficial. Rebuilding my subscription list is a major bummer and will take me quite a while. Luckily rebuilding my ignore list is a much faster task!

We didn't know we were going to lose subscriptions when we started. From earlier in this thread:

My sincerest condolences. They are gone in the transfer. We had a problem with the way the database was originally setup on this server, and had to do some shady magic in order to get the everything imported. One thing lost that we could not recover was subscriptions. Seriously man (and the other users who used them), I am sorry.

as much as I have enjoyed visiting here I simply cannot work with the new changes.

My eyes simply cannot adjust to all the darkness and I no longer find it user friendly:( As some of you may know, I am mourning the death of my beloved father Alberto and for now, I am just not the same person.

I would welcome some email friendships (penpals) because my mind loves all things vintage.

Has it been mentioned yet that there is an option at the bottom of the page to choose a format that is much lighter. White background with shades of blue and black text. Much easier on the eyes.

My apologies. I hadn't read that post. I was reading very little with the visual changes. Thanks to Bart's suggestion about changing the default style choice from "Blackend" to "Default Style". Thats much better for me!

Glad it helped Bill. It's definately alittle easier on the eyes. The site is so cluttered and hard on the eyes that I spend no time seaching for the hidden gems and now go straight to one or two threads that I know are worth the effort. I appreciate the work done to keep the site running but I sure miss the way the FL was.

Please take a moment to review this thread. Most of the items being raised have been addressed several times.

I'm looking out for my pard, here. Nathan has done an AWFUL lot of work on this. :)

I don't think this is something that has specifically been mentioned, but for me personally i have found the new search function to not be as effective. Instead of giving me the choice to view individual responses related to my searched keywords i can only view entire posts and then have to sift through the posts for what i want. Is this something i'll just have to suck up and deal with, or can it be changed and I'm just missing where?
Thanks, you guys are doing great.

I think I see what you mean, HG. I tried to do an advanced search, put a check mark in the box for Posts, put in a keyword and myself as the user. What I get back instead of posts I've made with the keyword in them are threads that I've started that have that keyword in them.

I'm sure that I've used the keyword Stetson in posts I've made in threads that were started by others, but none of those posts or those threads came up.

Regards,
Tom

Try searching as a single content type instead of multiple content types.

Advanced Search>Search Single Content Type>Search Type: Posts>Keyword>Show Results As: Posts

You can also save this to be your default.

While perusing the Members List I noticed the absence of one Marc Chevalier. That's akin to the NBA record books making no mention of Michael Jordan. Just an observation; I assume it's a tech gremlin at work.

Although Id been a big advocate of black text on light background, after reading the forum that way for a couple of days, I have decided that it doesnt look like The Fedora Lounge, so I am back to blackend. I just wish the letters in the posts were the same shade as those in the signatures - not completely white (that was too jarring for me and was the original reason for my desire for black on white), but not as gray as they are currently.
