I just tried this in an Obs bar post and all it does is say 'denise likes the fedora lounge' on my Facebook.

I 'liked' something in another room (suits) and it did put the specific thread I liked.....

so all is well in the universe.

On Facebook (in this instance), you can click a little icon to "like" something a friend has posted. If you are on Facebook and The Fedora Lounge, and you click the icon to link the two accounts, you can "like" something you see here and it will automatically appear as a "like" on your Facebook profile page.
We are still figuring out the details.

We are still figuring out the details.

Being of a somewhat hesitant and suspicious (paranoid?) nature, I kinda jump when I see messages like:

Do you want to connect this facebook account with your The Fedora Lounge account?...

Certain facebook "apps" seems to be nourishing themselves by harvesting personal & private information from unsuspecting individuals who valiantly chooses "I allow" when faced with innocent-looking questions about allowing permissions to access ones facebook account.

Just wondering: who owns the Fedora Lounge "App", and what are we in fact allowing the aforementioned software to do with our personal info if we tick "I Allow"?

Other than that; great work with the new tech-solution.
Thoroughly enjoying the new search-function.

I own the "app", though it's not really an app. We harvest zero information from the connection for an account that is already registered on the Lounge. The only options vBulletin has for importing data is your "biography", "location", "interests", and "occupation". I have all of these set to "Do Not Import".

If a user does not have a Lounge account, then the connection will pull their name as listed on their Facebook account, and make this their Lounge name, unless they want it to be something different.

If a user presses the "Like" button, we also receive no data or information from it.

Thank you for precise and swift info, good Sir!

And in the instance that an individual would like to keep IRL and URL personalities separated?
Will my real-life name be accessible for "Loungers" and/or my nick accessible for my Facebook-friends?

In the "search thread" drop-down, inside a thread, the text is very light for the "blackend" theme. I have trouble seeing what I've typed.

Thanks for all the hard work!

When using the theme switcher, does it write a board-wide cookie? The selected theme doesn't follow me across sections. Using Firefox 3.6.1

With my test account, I can see nothing on its Facebook page regarding the Lounge, and it's fully connected. On the Lounge side, "Loungers" can't see the facebook information at all. Nothing is posted from Facebook onto Lounge profile or posts.

Now remember, if a user is logged into Facebook and hits one of the "Like" buttons on the Lounge (or on any website for that matter-- cnn.com, wired.com, etc.), then the fact that they "Liked" this page will then show up on said user's Facebook account, depending on said user's privacy settings within Facebook. This is independent of the "Connection". If a user accidentally hits a Like button, they can easily hit the "unlike" button to delete it. This goes not only for the Lounge, but any page where you can "Like" or "Tweet" or "Share" things, which is extremely common on modern websites.

Nathan,

Great work, and visually the site looks great, and I find it easy enough to navigate around. But, and it is probably "operator error", I have a couple of issues I seem unable to resolve.

For some reason, and I have followed the instructions given, I cannot copy my "contacts" over into my "friends" folder, despite trying several times. Also, none of my subscribed threads have carried over, into the new format. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Danny O

Danny, you're gonna have to manually search out and resubscribe to your threads--I already asked. Believe me, if I can do it at almost 5600 posts (well, there's a six-month window that I can't dredge up, but beyond that it's done), anyone can with time and patience... it also helps to start the job with a search filter of "One Year Ago and Newer, Sort Descending" and go easy on posting more until that stage is done.

Basically, that filter sets your search to "Threads within the past year, starting with most recent"--and on such searches, since there's no way to tag everything before the search expires if you're a prolific poster, it's a good idea to open each page of results in a new tab first, then check the last opened page for more pages and repeat as necessary until you can't get any more pages of results, before subscribing to individual threads--here again, "Open Link In New Tab" is a good friend to have.

From the vBulletin site: "The only difference between a contact and a friend is this...

For someone to be a friend, you have to be on each other's contact list. There is not a separate list for contacts and friends."

I like the new appearance better. It just looks much more modern, which is a good thing, even on a retro forum. The load times for me are about the same as before, in that it's pretty fast unless the servers are strained, which is very infrequently.
