I think Brett Maverick (James Garner) also probably had a curled brim, although I can't remember.

Neither of the Maverick brothers wore curled brims on the old show. Bret Maverick's (James Garner) was dished well, but the brim edge was not curled like those here. Bret's hat was black and fairly large. It was also a 1900s era cowboy western style, not a proper late 1800s style. Then again, few TV cowboys EVER wore hat styles that were actually from the Old West era!

Bart Maverick's hat (Jack Kelly) was often brown and a bit smaller and lower crowned than Bret's but Bart's was also not a curled brim.

From the North Valley Hat Company:

I'm especially fond of the one on the left.

EDIT: Thanks for the reminder, Mobile Vulgus and Danofarlington. I must've saved the pic of the wrong hat, as there was a similar one (I think, it may not have been from the same site), sand colored with brown trim, that I meant to post. Dont' know how the black one got one there [huh].

Pic deleted.

Never been a fan of the white trim on a black hat. Seems a bit overmuch to me (maybe it strikes me as too feminine?). I agree with you on hat number one, though.

Or at least, the white trim is flashy. I couldn't wear it unless I was a rhinestone cowboy (anyone who recognizes this reference automatically dates himself).

lol

I have to agree with you guys on the white trim. I was really just trying to depict some of the brim curl styles offered by the North Valley Hat Company, and there are quite a few hats in that style in less flashy colors :). That one was just at the top of the page lol!

Well, I'm tapped out for now...I'll be searching the Lounge for examples I can steal and bring here. Until then, gentlemen, have a good day :).

MayserWegener, that homburg looks amazing!

Yeah I like the one on the left better also.

You know, the more I look at it, the more I'm reconsidering my original custom idea. This is compounded by the fact that the picture I first posted is Clearwater's "Mosby" which is a very, very small hat compared to what I was originally going for. I think I may actually go for something along the lines of the aforementioned hat.

Still searching through the Lounge for pics; You wouldn't believe (actually, maybe you would lol) how hard it is to find curled brims outside of derbies/bowlers and homburgs, especially since this thread's focused on the "curl" versus the hat itself.

Thanks to everyone who's posted so far :).

Heh, I was going to post anyway, but I saw my homburg picture put up already. I guess I'll add in a more current photo though. There's a difference in crown height and crease now. All I can say is I like the new look better, but it's a sharp hat either way:

I've seen this hat in an older, western hat thread before, but I really like this one. It looks like it's very warm to wear, actually. Is that true in your experience? Have you worn it in the snow of winter time?

Anyway, here's a western hat I plan on owning, someday:

Something like it at least. Similar to Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name style. It's not one of my top priorities though at the moment. I would like to hold off a bit on ordering another film replica hat for now, and focus on a more personal collection instead.

Thanks for posting, J.B.! I tried to find the most up-to-date pic of your St. Regis before I had to head to class, but sadly there wasn't enough time. Saying it now is redundant, but I'll say it anyway: that hat is awesome and you wear it well!

This one's so far out of the ordinary, especially in Maryland that it draws stares. Even though it fits, I don't wear it very much. Only time I've worn it out and about for an extended period of time was for a music event. I didn't notice much of a difference temperature wise. It would go really well with a turn of the century mens fur overcoat I have (also something I don't get a chance to wear much).

Hi Tennessee

You need to make a road trip to Corinth MI C. D. Jarigan and get fitted for a tan or black over coat from the Civil war.

http://www.jarnaginco.com/confedcatframe.html

$329.00 right now.

They're pretty thick wool.
I think that the Mosby hat would look too much like the Akubra's you already own. A Western Homburg like Bat Masterson or Garrett wore would be good, or probably a Gus with about a 3.5-4 inch curled brim. I think you need to make a trip to see the Major too. Other side of the state right? Drop by Dixie Gun Works while you're over there too. I buy from them, but my cousin said that the store is basically a museum.
