Last Tuesday, the office had the photographer in to do some publicity shots. After twelve years, I was finally caught and for the first time a portrait done for the institutional website. I look pretty haggard in all the shots the took, not to mention chinless. This seems to be the best one, though:

Hopefully they'll use a lower resolution on the site that doesn't show up the shaving rash. Sod's law I only have that the day I have to have my photo done...

I got home from college to find two suits my dad wanted to hand down to me, including this nice Sears off-white three-piece. I wore all but the vest to church, later wishing I'd followed my own advice and not forgone the vest and tie at parental recommendation. So, adding those when I got home, I took a picture with the instrument I want to learn someday when I have a more predictable (and open) schedule.

The pants are a tad tight, but I think if I move my usual pants-pocket contents to the vest, it will look fine. Just based off when my dad was my size, this is probably a late '70s or early '80s suit.

A very nice suit. A think a straw boater would go with it. Somehow. I dunno why. I just think it will.

Edward...tell us about the windowpane coat. Also, it looks like a nice spear collar on the shirt.

The shirt is one of those German Sigma A2 shirts from eBay that were discussed in the 'Spearpoint Collar Shirts' thread; I must get time to post a couple of shots in there. It's a nice enough shirt. Not on a par with my Saville Row Company shirts, but then it was a third of the price. I'll be taking it with me to Hong Kong next time I'm out there to have a few made with the same collar.

The jacket is a Roderick Charles jacket, which I picked up on sale from their Jermyn Street branch. Here it is on the website:

http://www.roderickcharles.com/p/Jackets/040101090003-H2.htm

The lining is more an olive green in person than it looks there. I also paid £150 in store - it seems their prices are a little better instore than on the web. They're normally rather out of my budget, but they have fantastic sales on a regular basis. I walked away a couple of weeks ago with a nice covert coat, that jacket, and two pairs of heavy cotton corduroys (which they hemmed with a cuff and sewed braces buttons into) for just about GBP500. You'll note that the full, non-sale price of the jacket is £400. I'm waiting for their Summer linens to go on sale next: I have an eye especially on the linen two piece in navy blue with a pinstripe. Lovely suit. For the most part, their cuts seem fairly mid fifties to me. Moderate lapels, bit of a waist, not too boxy but not designed for me in a corset either. Nice high armholes. Definitely a step up from the usual highstreet fare. The trousers are comparable in fit and cut to early fifties examples I have owned. Fairly full in the thigh, not quite thirties-wide at the ankle, but minimal tapering. Nice waist, too - I think they are in the region of a 12"-13" rise, from memory - they sit just over my navel at the waist. Highly recommended.
