Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest
One of our big boys should be happy today. Lefty perhaps? We sure have been seeing a lot of these big hats in recent weeks. That's a welcome change of pace for many, I'm sure.

I'm really curious to see what you think of it when you have it in-person... I found a pin that I thought was a Strat pin, this weekend, but I jumped the gun and it wasn't. It's made of a gold/brass colored metal. Someone scratched in '1945' on a wing, so I know it's old, but not that much beyond that.
I have pictures. check a few posts back. It might be a rare, original one.

I saw the conversation about it and the ads that were posted, but not the auction pics. Very nice. I'd agree you have an original.
It's very nice, but it's not mine. I'm not buying anything unless it's an incredible deal or it's something I just can't live without. If it's not 30s or earlier (rare, as you know, in the bigger sizes), I'm barely paying attention.

Lefty, are you trying to cut back also? Just how many hats do you own? You provide a lot of insight, but I never have seen that much from your collection.
People are often under the impression that I've got a stockpile like rlk. Nothing could be further from the truth. I've got three nice straws, one beater straw, and around 15 felts. Of those felts, I probably wear around 5 of them regularly, I could probably lose 5 them and never know they were gone, and while I should sell the other 5, I'd probably regret it. I've posted all of the hats that I own.
The fact that I've purchased more hats than I've sold this year really bothers me, as I'm really not a fan of having a lot of stuff. I'm up an Optimo milan, a Stetson Nutria Quality, a Stetson Playboy Air Light, and a Lofgren cap, and down only a Lee Trinity. Once the cool weather is back, I might be unloading a few felts.

I am about to sell about 10 of them, though.
Actually, your present count reveals that you have more hats than I thought you had. Be that as it may, it does seem as though quite a lot of big vintage hats have been on the move as of late.

Well here, they'll tell you up untill 7:00 PM I think, though I've actually (rarely) gotten deliveries later. I've also had them listed as "out for delivery" only to be returned to the terminal unexplained and delivered the following day.
This week as I was expecting delivery of my new Stetson Austral, at 3:30 (around their "normal" time for me on their route) I checked the computer. Said "delivered". Hmm. No barking dogs. No box on the front porch (or at side door, though the site said left at front door). Stepping outside, I looked around... and spotted my box on the next door neighbors front porch!
I've no love lost for ANY of the delivery services, having had difficulty with each at one time or another. But UPS? Should spell it OOPS. Not a big fan here, to say the least.

In what alternate universe is a 7-1/2 a big hat?
In one or another of those alternative universes shared (at least in part) by a great many people. Check the standard size charts, for example. It is common practice to view 7-1/2 and up as extra large. Admittedly, "extra large" and "big" may not be the same. On questions that subtle, I will defer to the philologists ...
