The way things look now, I'm going to have to move back in with my parents, which is a serious blow to my ego. I can't, of course, blame the economy for everything, but I'm trying all the time and the shortage of jobs doesn't help.

I hope that you find work soon.

It's just really sad. I've had students crying in my office because of the pressure they feel. I never thought I'd have multiple students cry in my office hours over not being able to find a job. Other things, sure, but not how they had been looking for 6 months with no leads. Even some of the school's top undergraduate students (in a top program), who have the stellar paid internships are having difficulties finding soft places to land. Some of them have even gotten letters from companies offering them a paid job 2 years from now or they go through 10 interviews for one position just to have the job pulled when there are two interviewees left.

Some of them tell me they need work because both their parents have been laid off and they are going to lose their home. I've had other students tell me that their worried their parents will have to support them and that means their parents will never be able to retire. Or their parents will be worked to death and die at an early age trying to support their adult children.

It is incredibly heart breaking for me to hear these stories. :(

There are also segments where women are older.
My comment about averages is to broaden the idea that children are having children. The stats don't show it, unless you buy media hype.

That's true about the older segment, Feraud; where I now teach, many of the mothers didn't start having kids until their late '30s. However, as I wrote before, there are a couple of segments of society in which teen-age motherhood is now very common. When I taught middle school, we had 6th grade girls who were pregnant, and that's sad.

So you're comparing the middle-aged guy with the mullet and Metallica t-shirt with Einstein?...The former looks like he is purposefully trying to look like a kid, whereas Einstein (by that time) was simply too absorbed in other things to care much about his appearance.

I missed the Metallica T-Shirt. All I saw was a guy standing in front of place that sells cheap beds for the night. He was probably homeless and really down on his luck... But easy game to be made fun of.

I'm "here" because I like fedoras, and 30's - 40's fashion. I like the look of deco. The music played on a 78. The craftsmanship of a shoe with a leather sole. Why are you here?

Yeah dig that mullet on Einstein. :p
At least I could figure that Einstein could get out of a wet paper bag. :p

That I can understand. That's what draws the vast majority of us here in the first place.

I'm having more of a difficult time understanding what you're doing in this thread. You've referred to the participants as a mob, and intimated that they (we) are bigots. You've also posted a picture of a great historical figure with a comment that is designed to incite anger (before you say it wasn't, I know you aren't that ignorant.)

More often than not, we don't agree with each other on here. The difference is, we don't get up-in-arms, or try to start arguments.

All good reasons.
I asked because you seem a bit angry and like to leave snide remarks (see above comment).

Me? I'm here for several reasons, but mostly because I have a great love of the past and I feel at home here with like minded individuals.

There's a story that at one time Einstein had a wardrobe consisting multiple copies of the exact same suit, shirt and tie. He said he didn't want to waste even a moment of thought on something as insignificant as choosing what suit to wear.

Are you just one of the youngsters that have been raised that every comment made in society is politically incorrect and made by ignorant, racist, bible-thumping Americans? Just curious, because that's the sense I get from the bait... everything is offensive. You're offended by everything sans an evening of watching MSNBC?

I prefer to hang out with folks whom have a sense of humor about themselves and life. You?

lol. I'm not trying to start any arguments. I just hate seeing a one way road. Just giving a point of view that nobody seems here to have. I call it as I see it.

You forget that there are people with different viewpoints and when you all gang up on the one with a different view point then yes, that's a mob.

I know I'm a minority here on how I see the world.
