What's for Dinner?

Today it's gonna be something sweet: Germknödel; this is a kind of yeast dumpling filled with plum jam. You can eat it with custard or with poppy and melted butter, but I'll have vanilla sauce instead...

This week so far:

-- Roasted hokaido pumpkin/peppers/garlic/red onion with fried sage leaves and Schupfnudel (a kind of fried German gnocchi, which some parts of Germany actually call 'Boys' penises' - more evidence, if it's needed, that the Germans have indelicate culinary sensibilities)

-- Green pea and hamhock soup with lovage (people have been making this gorgeous recipe since the middle-ages. I love-age the stuff. )

-- Lamb madras

-- Broccoli, potato, and feta cheese soup

Tonight I think I'm gonna knock out some shrimp and bean fajitias....

But first I must eat lunch - genmai miso soup with spring onions (and a dash of jalapeno sauce!)

I do all the cooking in my house. My wife thinks pans are objects that people hit each other with in silent movies and cartoons...

Had a taste for deli tonight. :essen:

Matzo ball soup, knish, latkes, lox-n-bagels, potato salad, coleslaw, macaroni salad...and a bunch of sammies: corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, turkey, salami, and a Monte Cristo. Sounds like a lot but there were five of us so no heart attacks occurred. I like to eat deli with a group of people so we can quarter the sammies and casually nosh trough the whole spread sampling everything. Works for Chinese as well.

Sounds absolutely delicious! What deli did you go to?

Everything sounds fantastic. I love a lamb curry (actually, mutton is better but it's difficult to buy these days).

I love eating that way too. Sometimes I'll make a dinner out of a mix of hors d'oeuvres :)

Earlier we had Pork Fried Rice...Chicken Lo Mein...and Cashew Chicken...with sugar fried biscuits(?). This was the first time I had tried the Asian chicken dishes. I must say...very very good for a change of pace!
Now..I need a dose of red beans and rice this weekend..

There's better places but I go there because it's nearby.
