I guise since I was born and raised out West, this would be the song! We tend towards the Irish funerals, so lots of jokes and laughing at the reception!

Great posts and not a question I'd considered until tonight. I've tried to live an upbeat life and would like to go out the same way. "Begin the Beguine" by Artie Shaw and "Let's Dance" by the Benny Goodman Orchestra would be the way to go I think.

The only funeral that I can remember that had really good if haunting music was for a friend of mine that was murdered while we were in high school. He (the deceased) was an outstanding guitar player, and his teacher was asked to play a selection of my friend's favorite tunes before the service. There wasn't a dry eye in the place after that, but there weren't too many to begin with because the whole thing was just tragic.

This reminds me of High Fidelity, where John Cusack's character describes what he wants played at his funeral:

"'Many Rivers to Cross' by Jimmy Cliff, 'Angel' by Aretha Franklin, and I've always had this fantasy that some beautiful, tearful woman would insist on 'You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me' by Gladys Knight."

"Waiting At the End of the Road".

"The way is long, the night is dark, but I don't mind 'cause a happy lark will be singing at the end of the road..."
