I find that people follow the crowd and that even people who often think that they are unique are just following different crowds. I know of a few people who are true individuals and wear what they want to wear when and where and everyone else be damned, and nearly everyone else I know is following a group aesthetic of some kind or another.

When you consider that most people subscribe to certain brands and looks, it is not a stretch that the exposure piece goes along with it.

While I write this let me salute the true individuals, those that wear a Fez if they want to wear a Fez, or a jumpsuit in a Peter Max print because they think it is cool. Someone rocking Farah Fawcett hair because they think it's beautiful or high-waisted pants from the thirties because that fit looks correct to their eye. Those are the ones that I am impressed with everyday.

Today's high temperature was 51 degrees. Yay springtime.

Ow! It's getting down to that temeparture at night here now, heading for winter. The coldest it gets here in the very depths of winter is generally 30 degrees Fahrenheit - zero degrees Celsius, during the night and mornings. Sometimes, if it's realy cold, we'll get -2 (28 degrees Fahrenheit) but you don'tt get that every year.

Outside temperature today is 75 degrees Fahrenheit. Lovely . . .

Showing off their 'flaws?' There is no definitive guide to beauty and attractiveness. Everyone is loved by someone irrespective of their skin type or body shape. It's a dangerous road to think otherwise & start seeing fashion mags as bibles to how we should look & be pressurized to conform to 'a look.'
If folk want to strip down & are comfortable in themselves then so be it.
However... When my parents stripped off in the sunshine in the 1930s and onwards (especially in the 70s with holidays to Spain!) they weren't overly aware of skin cancers. Today, people are 'more' aware and so many more folk cover up and wear high factor skin creams.

Great post Paddy :) and you are spot on about the dangers of skin cancer. I've lost friends & relatives to melanoma (I get myself checked yearly by a skin cancer specialist). I'm a pale skinned redhead, I don't sun bake & I try to cover up when it's sunny. Nothing to do with modesty, just trying to be sensible & minimise my uv exposure.

JP, I'm yet to meet an Aussie who's been to San Francisco or surrounds and hasn't raved about it. I've heard it's like being a tourist
visiting all the sights and experiences of a beautiful and iconic American city while enjoying the climate of home!

They haven't been to the right sections of San Franfreako. lol lol lol
The weather is something else. :p

Yep, Mr. Powers would know better than I because he lives there, but my take of SF is that you can do anything from visiting the haunts of hard-boiled crime writer Dashiell Hammett to witnessing an S&M orgy in the streets.

Aw that's what those tourist buses are for, they take you for a glimpse of all the good stuff you wanna see so you can go back and check it out in depth later (that's what I did in Paris a few years back anyway). Never fear, we've got our fair share of freaks around here too. Actually my home town, about 28 miles s/w of Sydney proper, has over the last ten or so years become a major drug capital, so much so that venturing near the town centre even at lunch time is quite an adventure. It's like visiting the zoo, watching the junkies swear, spit, fight and create general mayhem, especially on welfare payment day.:eeek:

Well now, my Husband lived a lot of years in Southern California, but had some travels up near the "bay"....and yes, there is a reason for it's nick name.....but it also has some history and attractions even in the bad areas. You just have to avoid all the adult theaters and weirdo shops.....unless you are shopping for some weirdo items. There are indications, (do not know if it is true or not) that you can purchase leather "knickers" for your pet hamster there.
