I wasn't saying anything negative towards TheDane. I agree about how this thread reads by some. You can harp all you want but try reading my post about his health. A lot talk about what great community this place is. Well, where are all the people coming to his aid? where is all the compassion, Where is all the understanding? HE is doing the best he can and will fill the orders when he should just call chapter 11 on the entire thing.

Here's your time to show what a great community this place is.

I don't know oak . . . I have heard lots of second-hand stories about health issues and financial woes, and I have sent kind regards and best wishes for Steve's health to him. But I have heard nothing back. I think lots of folks here are compassionate, and would offer a helping hand if they knew how to help. But I have not heard him ask for help . . . nor take the time to apologize to his customers. I do not even know from him what the cause of the delay might be, as I have only heard second hand.

As for this thread, although I know it seems to be an excuse for compalints, my last post simply asked if anyone had heard anything on the current situation. Since this is the only place that I hear anything. My emails, calls and letters have all gone unanswered.

Yes, I have groused in the past . . . Since I am not a rich man, a loss of several hundred dollars rankles... It still rankles.

If this were a forum about auto dealers, I would have far more to grouse about :). . . But in our community, I have had only one person who did not deliver as promised, which is a pretty good record. I still have hopes that the one who has not delivered will do right by me and others . . .

If you're been waiting for X years. Really let it go. Write it off as a charitable donation... At least in your mind. All you are accomplishing is keeping alive a six year toothache. Even if you eventually get that hat, will you be able to look at it without bringing up negative feelings? Let it go, treat it as a charitable gift. That way if someday a hat shows up on your doorstep it will be a nice surprise rather than a bitter reminder of a bad experience.

I guess this is excellent advice . . . A charitable donation it is...

If you go back a ways I think someone has re-posted Steve own post from COW asking help and telling what happened. He did in fact apologized for the situation. Very few came to his aid. No hat maker but myself came and helped him.

Guys,it seems that this isn't going anywhere.Consider what is known:
1.Mr.Delk builds a great hat.
2.Mr.Delk has has/has had terrible health issues.
3.Checking here and on several forums there seems agreement that he is currently building hats and using current income to help fund old orders.
4.The common thread throughout would seem to be that Mr.Delk is at best poor at communication and that most issues could have been avoided by simple status updates.
It doesn't appear that has changed,so.......??

As for this thread, although I know it seems to be an excuse for complaints, my last post simply asked if anyone had heard anything on the current situation. Since this is the only place that I hear anything. My emails, calls and letters have all gone unanswered.
Most of the hostility appears to be due to how (several years ago) a number of dissatisfied customers made very inappropriate, cruel and personal remarks regarding Mr Delks health. I can understand why his supporters don't want the thread to devolve into that kind of behaviour again, but it does seem to me that people who are now turning to the thread simply to inquire as to whether there are any updates in regards to their order are treated rather curtly by some members.

I agree with all of these points, (though there seems to be some skepticism of point 3), but even if the thread were closed another one would appear. As you say the lack of status updates isn't helping; the last update from Mr Delk I can find is from 2011, at the beginning of the thread - if anyone knows of a more recent update I'm sure it would be helpful to many of the posters if you could post a link to it here.

There was a re-post from COW since then. It was posted end of may 2013.

Nope.
No need for John to be banned. He is a great guy who is backing up someone who is unable to do so (which is not a bannable (sp?) offense I recall). Do I 100% agree with the way that Mr. Delk has handled the situation? No, not really. But he is trying to get hat orders out. Recently, I have seen a few new orders and some old orders shown off at the indygear forums. I respect a man who is trying to fulfill his obligations, same as I respect a man who is standing up for a friend who is unable to do so for himself.

John: You have my back. I just wish that there were some here who weren't so vile about their disagreement.

Steve: If you happen to read this, thank you for not giving up. Keep on trucking, as long as it is in good health.

It's hard for me to fathom that this discussion has devolved to the point that banning one of the premier custom hatters in the world from the Fedora Lounge is even a topic of conversation.

An awful lot of raw emotions on this page and no solutions other than the one everyone has been stuck with for years: just wait and see if the hat ever comes.
I feel bad for everyone on both sides of the aisle. A total mess.
