Stetson late '50s or early '60s employee retirement presentation piece with very weird attributes

In my Lounge search for the retirement hats, I found this... Clearly a 7X, Mode Edge.

Another fantastic prize of a hat. I think this is either the second or third 7x CB Stetson retirement hat. Like the others, it's small - a size 7.

But then this from 2011... which is much more interesting because it describes a Stetson stingy 7X Clear Beaver with a mode edge sweatband BUT a bound brim. But the seller says that it's a '30s or '40s hat. That's just wrong if my understanding of the 7X dating from no earlier than the '50s is correct.

I wonder if this is the hat, or if there could be its like out there.

Unfortunately, the post mentions nothing about the liner tip. Likewise, the old eBay link is of little immediate help. No photos. I did a Google search for the item number. No hits.

I am going to look more closely at what remains of the eBay listing though to see if I might be able to track down the seller. If I can, then maybe I'll creep them out by getting in touch about a hat they sold five years ago. (After first posting this, I looked more closely. No luck on seller identification.)

The Lounge member "Rodkins" was last seen around the Lounge in 2014.

I hung in there for this
Stetson stingy 7XCB - but dropped out when the dollars went past my curiousity. It's an interesting Stetson retirement gift that used a mode edge sweat on a hat with an edge binding. Could have been done later (very short brim) or since it was an employee hat maybe he requested it.
Neat one either way IMO.

Well... I've let my OCHD (obsessive compulsive hat disorder) drive the bus way too much today. Gonna let it go for the night (I think... Probably... Maybe). [emoji6]
Enjoy

Still no luck on an obit for Mr. Stewart. Aaarrggghhhh.

Birth records, death records, obits, pictures, etc.

Oh, I see Tonio has already been there. Never mind...

I've searched 10 different sites, and I can't find an Obit either. One thing I've seen before is that although a person died in a certain town, his surviving family all lived in a different area and so they only paid for an Obit in their area newspaper. Still, no luck on my searches... it's odd because there should be something listed for 1972. Sometimes records are lost or poorly kept as well

Seems to me I've seen this hat posted here before, but I might have dreamt it. Obviously a one-off as a presentation gift, might just have been made up of disparate parts.

There is no information, to my knowledge, that supports Huston's website claims on the content of 7X Clear Beaver and Stetson 100. Stetson 100 originates 1950s. 7X clear beaver goes back earlier. Having owned a number of each, I question whether there was a difference outside of the box/suitcase and marketing.

You're not going to find an obituary from 1972 digitally online unless you go to an obituary archival website, set up an account & pay a fee. Even then they may not have it online yet because it's now 42 yrs old.

Thanks Alan. Good info. The disparate parts thing is just so odd!

You may have seen this one back in March when it first fell into my hands. I've looked around for it elsewhere on the Lounge and haven't seen it.

Oh... any thoughts on the brim? Cut down? I need to look at photos of binding on other Stetsons from the early '60s I guess to get a better feel for their appearance myself.

Be well.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll just have to travel to Philly and dig into some microfiche.

I can see myself trying to sell that to the lovely bride. Yeah, sure...

On the brim, my guess is original.

Here is the hat from the auction you referenced above. Similar but not the same one. I think this is the hat I was remembering.
