Jim, you have buoyed my spirits.

Sometimes, I am awakened in the middle of the night by the very troubling thought: "Does Jim still have faith in me?"

Tonight, thanks to you, I expect that I will sleep very soundly.

By the way... Why do you think that Sears went bankrupt and probably will not be around much longer? JUNK RUBBER CHICKENS!!!

Not to mention the ponchos.

Thanks Jim. Its how I felt waiting 6 mos for yer Stetsonian. And not how I felt when you secretly bombed us with your Gannon sneak attack. ;)

(sigh) the Stetsonian was closer to 9 mos., actually. But you and I love our Stetsonians now, don't we? I relished dropping that first Gannon. That was fun!

Rainy, cold, drizzly, slushy, about to get re-iced. What else?
Camp.
Draft.

What hat is the body from Bob?

Great ribbon. And the upturned brim looks great. You pull that look off very well.
Thank you! The body was never made into a hat Matt. The raw capeline (sp?) was H Hendler & Sons Inc. They called it a "Temple 1"
Possibly manufactured in the early 50's...? Once the body was cut back to make a 3 inch brim and before the headliner and sweatband were added it weighed only 2.2 ounces. Its a very tissue thin lightweight body.

Hey peeps!
Such a pleasure it is to be in the company of such well-hatted folks. Also quite a kick to be amongst a group that doesn't think an adult (technically) with a rubber chicken is a bad thing. I firmly believe that this world would benefit greatly from at least a 21% increase in daily silliness.
As I have long ago misplaced my own latex leghorn, all I have to offer is this old duck.

Now go forth, all, and commit some harmless tomfoolery!
And have a great day whilst doing it.:)

The last of my NorthWest Purchases. I was originally expecting this hat to be a shade of charcoal darker than what I received. Almost heather black to be exact. Then my idea was to put a black bow on top of it so it popped just a little bit from the hat color. Unfortunately that is not what I received. I also think the crown is too high which gives off a cartoonish look a la Porky Pig in a Gangster Suit. Anyway I kept it because I hate going to the Post Office.

NorthWest Hats ( lets call it carbon grey with a black bow ) Stafford JC Penney Suit ( LOVE THESE SUITS ! Best Deal In Town) Gucci EyeGlasses / Givenchy Sunglasses)

I think the crown height/dimensions look great, Sonero. But you van always drop the crease a bit for a lower profile.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

I don't know Red, I think it needs more color. Maybe add something like this to the lower unit?

For St Paddy's maybe you are thinking of something like this?

How are the kidneys? Hopefully getting better.

Michael

Have you seriously considered getting a portfolio together and marketing yourself as a model ? Day in day out you never cease to amaze me.

Where does your inspiration come from ? I love seeing what you put together.

Yes it's too bad they didn't focus more on production but I doubt they have anyone that knows much about the past history or cares to look into it in detail.

The German Hat Musuem in Lindenberg, Germany (Mayser Hats is headquartered there) is more production oriented so probably worth taking a look at if you are ever in the area.

Your point about not being able to see the inside of the hats is a big problem for people like us that collect and wear hats. Luckily the hat museum at the Gotisches Haus (Gothic House) Hat Museum, Bad Homburg vor der Höhe, Germany allowed me to go through the men's hats in their archives and also photo document the hats. I was also able to look through their library and photo documents of interest. This museum has been a great resource to me. I still have a back log of documents I need to post on my website.

I also visited the hat museum at the Nový Jičín (was Neutitschein, Austria prior to WWI) City Museum in Moravia, Czechia (this was Austrian Velour center with JHS (now TONAK), AP and BB). They have about 6000 hats in their archives which I wasn't able to see but the curator gave me many great photos which are posted on my website. Since my visit they opened an additional museum that is dedicated to the production of hats.

There is also Frech Hüte in Wien.

http://germanaustrianhats.invisionzone.com/index.php?/topic/167-frech-huete/

Collins Salzburg - Wien made hats up until around 2010. There is still production information on their website. Their hat maker worked at P. & C. Habig Wien and supposedly they have some of the old P. & C. Habig hat forms. I have no idea if they still have all this equipment / machines.

I don't know... The contrast between the green and the color of the hat is quite striking. You might have lost that with the BGG.

Regardless, it's a great look for you.

Have fun.

Thanks Sonero. I like your new hats. Very nice. Not sure about the inspiration.

What an awesome tie!! I love the fabric!! Anyone else has garments featuring hats?
I don't have any. But I do like the tie.

WOW! Stunningly elegant.
Well Thank you very much!! :)

That is a choice hat. What is the material? Very nice look overall.
Thanks Kuki.
Whether people notice or not I don't know, but perhaps one or two a week will comment.
Michael
The material is fake persian lamb (astrakhan), it's like a half beret, something quite strange but looks nice, made from a vintage pattern.
I'm pretty sure they notice, you look to good not to!!

Thank you.
No, good vintage french grosgrain swirls really well.

You look elegant! Astrachan?
Vintage french grosgrain does indeed swirl great. I have a ribbon disk from MB and it does make life easier.
Today's hat is indeed Astrakhan (not real).

This won't be enough hat, jacket or boots when the temperature starts dropping, the snow starts droppng and the wind heads toward gale force. But then again I may not leave the house after that snow starts.

A lot of fine hats here already today. Especially for a Saturday. I thought most of you guys hung out here when you were at work so that you didn't have to, you know, work?

Have a great weekend.

Michael
Michael, again you do not disappoint, I love the bold colors!! Then the two extra "green" looks?! That's just showing off!!! Awesome!

Sunny and cold Saturday
The morning is spent looking at the works of my mother-in-law who was a painter in Italy in the years 60 and 70.
They have been removed from the attic and now has in place a thorough cleaning for a future publication.

Interior of the hat. Non known brands for my knowledge, sorry!

Thanks for your kind words of the Lobbia Borsalino in grey
Buon Sabato
Wonderful look, sober but with a touch of fancy with that ribbon! Buon Sabato anche a te!

Thanks! I think it's related to comfort. The sweatband does have a reed on the outside and the felt is fairly light and less rigid. Stiff Felts were losing market to Soft Felts so the companies were always trying to make them more comfortable and lighter weight.
I thought as much, stiff felts must have been a pain in the... head. No wonder comfort won.

Cristina in the Borsalino production, on the paper label under the sweatband, usually when the are contrasting ribbon you find the color of the main ribbon marked near the felt color.
I have no informations for others hats producers, sorry
Your "Sábado (the same world is used in my dialect) sombrero" is fantastic!
Interesting to know about the ribbons, I love the bolder combinations!
Gracias, me alegro que te haya gustado mi sombrero del sábado!!

Very elegant! Love the bird!!
Thanks Red! I can neither confirm nor deny that I had a period of madness that led to a collection of hundreds of 30's-50's American brooches, such creativity!! I was even in an episode of UK's Antiques Roadshow a few years ago :)

Even on saturday no one is slumming it here, great hats from all again. Today was a two hat day, started off wearing the same borsalino as yesterday...

View media item 1128
...but then decided it just wouldn't do to be so boring as to wear the same hat two days in a row, so decided on something a bit more whimsical

Happy weekend everybody!
Love the hat, looking elegant!!

Absolutely love that hat & brooch, you look stunning! Reminds me there was a fashion back at the start of the 20th century for women's hats with actual whole dead birds attached to them. George Bernhard Shaw wrote a grumpy letter about it to the Royal Opera House, which is a very entertaining read: http://www.lettersofnote.com/2012/05/spectacle-sickened-me.html
It was a sad moment in history, the amount of Paradise birds that were killed to be mounted on hats! I didn't know George Bernhard Shaw's letter, wonderful!
