Women's leather jackets

Joan Jett frightens me.
I still see Debbie Harry wearing that black bin liner from the Atomic video in my dreams sometimes.

You mean nightmares, J.

I don't know, I've been in love with Joan Jett ever since I saw that stupid I love Rock 'n' Roll video. Not even PETA helped much there, and PETA always ruins everything for me.

Just a bit of off-topic boasting, but I knew Debbie slightly when she was a waitress at Max's Kansas City (In N.Y.) back in the early '70's. Not only was she strikingly beautiful, but she was also funny and nice in a real Jersey-girl kind of way.

Nice story. She's still a very good looking woman. Hard to believe she's now the age she is, but I seem to remember being surprised at her age even in the late 70s, being older than I imagined.

She's still quite a presence in person.

probably Joan Jett now wears "vegan leather" designer jackets since she is a peta activist.

Likely. Chrissie Hynde did the same. If memory serves, Vanson do one or two of these; the Vegetarian Shoes company in Brighton does them in a Perfecto style. Not sure what the composition of their leatheralike is though. I can't imagine that a petroleum-based pleather would appeal to that market.

As a rule, women really don't like the idea of breaking in a leather jacket and don't like them to scuff up too easily. I tend to think goat is the best compromise - light and characterful straight out of the box.

Just throwing Himel's name in there as well. I have been wanting to get my fiancé a good leather jacket for a while now because I know she would look killer in it... I just wish I could afford one for her right now.

Well, my plan all worked out!

Yesterday I "randomly" walked by Lewis Leathers with my girlfriend and we went in so she could try things out...
She really liked the Super Monza, but the stock model didn't fit her as well as it could have.
The guy "offered" to make a mock custom order just out of curiosity ( I had a word with him while she was browsing and he was in on it).
When we left i could see she was gutted she couldn't order it and looked really excited at the idea of one day ordering it.
She even said "i'm really worried that if i one day order this jacket i will really get into it and want more of them..." sounds just like me...

Anyway, i went back today and ordered it for her, it should take around 4 months, and should be ready for her birthday in November!

I can't wait, i hope it turns out ok, from past experience with my Dominator i have faith in Lewis Leathers...
Also, i hope i am not starting a crazy leather jacket thing for her, i already struggle keeping up with my jacket habit!

Schott does make a perfecto in cowhide. Not sure how popular it is compared to the lambskin. Women do have different priorities in general when it comes to clothing. They value comfort and style more than durability.

Brother that Langlitz is barely one day old!
I know how it goes though, every time a new jacket arrives I feel a powerful thirst to order another...

I totally agree. I don't understand why more companies don't use goat for women's jackets/accessories. It's tough as nails and soft. Seems like it would be perfect no? I mean women don't care as much about durability as men but it's still a bummer when your sleeve tears or your purse strap breaks.

Call me Corporal Clinger, but I've said it before and I'll say it again...it's more fun to eye shop for the girlfriend than for my own self. It seems that men's style and quality just crashed to disposable levels in the 80s onwards while women at least kept the cool floral patterns, occasional quality pieces, and whatnot going.

I dont know where your girlfriend shops but everything ive ever seen any of my wife or my ex girlfriends bring home has been more disposable than what ive ever worn. Aalot of womens clothes that ive seen my wife in are garbage
