NJ, I've never owned a Stemwinder. I was interested in the Moss green one but missed out by $1. There was an eBay auction/liquidation in 2016 of an estate collection with several Stemwinders in it.

Oh my! So you were in the chase too? Not familiar with this brand either (then again, I'm still an 'intermediate novice'). I requested some basic stats but it appears the seller was only interested in selling. Got this one for a song. News at 11!

I researched Stemwinder & a few others I had never heard of from the 2016 auction. As I recall Stemwinder is strictly a custom hatter in Oklahoma City & her hats are well thought of. Don't know much more than that.

I'd just wear it...

I came close to giving it a go as it is, but since it could use a clean and reblock and the sweat is badly separating, I decided to get it rebuilt and be done with it and have it ready for the next 60 years. I’ve also been wanting to try Scott out for refurbishment work as he quoted a 1-2 week completion time!

The sweat is separating and not just a little. I’ll leave the hat as it is, but I want to wear it so I’ll have the sweat replaced unless there is some reason not to?
