I love the thick striped t's But $100 for one?!?!?!

I love the thick leather jackets, but $1,200 or more for one?!?!?! "You got to be out of your mind!"

By comparison, a $100 t-shirt is cheap.

I wear t-shirts year-round and MUCH more often than leather jackets. I can buy 12 or more frequently worn $100 t-shirts for the same amount as one infrequently worn $1,200 leather jacket (not to mention other considerably more expensive leather jackets). Moreover, when I infrequently wear my leather jackets, it is generally for short distances while outside and exposed to the elements. As soon as I get inside, the jacket comes off. In contrast, I wear my t-shirt all day long, inside and out. My frequently worn t-shirt is front and center for 8-12 hours, whereas my infrequently worn leather jacket is front and center for an hour at most. Thus, my t-shirts are arguably much more important and more deserving of an investment in quality.

I enjoy high quality clothing from top to bottom. I invest in quality sneakers, jeans, t-shirts, henleys, collared shirts, flannels, sweatshirts, hoodies, and jackets (I also invest in quality work clothing, including suits, ties, dress shirts, and dress shoes). The cost of these items is silly and, in each instance, I am well beyond the point of diminishing returns. That said, the cost is worth it TO ME because I enjoy the incremental increase in quality.

Ps: I dry clean EVERYTHING, including my quality t-shirts (the only exceptions being my underwear, socks, and sleeping gear). Crazy? You bet.

I can understand this rationale but still can't see how the quality to cost ratio is actually realized in a t-shirt. But indeed, to each their own.

I’m with you @Superfluous on many things you said but dry-cleaning a cotton t-shirt really feels to me like flushing money down the toilet.

I wear ProClub crew neck long/short sleeve shirt 100% cotton. Really thick 220 gsm (6.5 oz) nice quality cotton, no lateral seams. Costs within the 10-15$ range but you get what you pay for. Smth that fits great doesn't stretch. American quality.
It's unlike the usual flimsy t-shirts you can find in stores.
In cold season I wear a 90% cotton sweatshirt like Gildan crew neck 300 gsm.

In general I prefer wearing American products. Great stuff. Boots, jackets, shirts, coats, jeans, trousers - can't beat them.

If you want real madness check this out:

$90 boxer shorts! Not sure who wears these and why, but who are we to judge?
I apologize for the off-topic. For good quality underwear that won't break the bank you can also try the Schiesser German brand: https://www.schiesser.com/herrenbekleidung-unterwaesche-slips/
Their underwear (slips, boxers, and H ribbed shirts) really fit good, look apart and wear well. Unlike generic cheap/mass produced stuff.

I think the point about location is very important. I live close to Super so I also wear t shirts as outerwear. I NEVER wear t shirts as undershirts so to me, they are just as important as good shirts and jackets.

I do have cheap t shirts to sleep in and wear around the house and these never make it outside. For these, I would never pay over $20 so I understand the point about not wanting to spend much on underwear.

Dav I WAY prefer the untucked look there. But I respect your choice, given it is none of my business. :D I just find the tucked in look almost always looks repressed to me.

I think its heavily regionally based/influenced.

Australia is an incredibly casually dressed country, T-shirts untucked are the norm. Only very daggy old men tuck their T-shirts in here.

I've been wearing uniqlo T's for a while now, they seem to be a good length for not tucking, decent quality for the price.

imo expensive T's are a rip off. You are paying more for the brand name and marketing than quality of materials. Sure the quality might be slightly better than a cheaper one but a $100 shirt is not 10 times better than a $10 shirt, maybe twice as good....but each to their own. I'd rather regularly replace cheaper shirts and have them always looking new than try and baby an overpriced piece of cotton way past its best by date because I paid a fortune for it.

Having said that and reading @superflouous post, maybe I've just never seen a shirt in his category....most of the "expensive T's" I've seen are still mall style shirts...I have to admit, the ones he posted do look like good quality...
