I'm in my 30s and keep my shirt tucked in. Due to torso taper, the untucked shirt floats around my waist. I find this bit messy and unflattering. Shirts are easier to slim down and be kept untucked.

I've been wearing uniqlo T's for a while now, they seem to be a good length for not tucking, decent quality for the price.

imo expensive T's are a rip off. You are paying more for the brand name and marketing than quality of materials. Sure the quality might be slightly better than a cheaper one but a $100 shirt is not 10 times better than a $10 shirt, maybe twice as good....but each to their own. I'd rather regularly replace cheaper shirts and have them always looking new than try and baby an overpriced piece of cotton way past its best by date because I paid a fortune for it.

Having said that and reading @superflouous post, maybe I've just never seen a shirt in his category....most of the "expensive T's" I've seen are still mall style shirts...I have to admit, the ones he posted do look like good quality...

Uniqlo Ts are what I buy mostly nowadays too. Perfect length for me in their x smalls and pretty decent quality for the price.

But I used to be really into raw denim and most of my stuff was from the higher end Japanese makers and compared to what you get at Target and Walmart, yes they are 100 times better. As far as other “better” mall brands..I guess it varies. But I can definitively say that they won’t be close to as good quality. So I don’t necessarily think they are a rip off. If you held one in your hands you’d be astonished at the quality.

But for me it seemed that no matter what kind of t shirt I would get they would always end up developing holes near the bottom where the belt is in what I thought was a relatively short amount of time. They would hold up much better than cheapo brands for sure but I just came to the conclusion that it’s just not worth it for me to spend so much money on something I would have to replace after a couple years. Same thing goes for my denim. No matter how thick I got em they would always end up getting torn. I mostly get APCs now. They’re about half the price of the higher end stuff, still good quality, get really good fades and the petit standard cut just works really well for me.

Sunspel T-Shirts $160.00 Sea Island Cotton Keeps one cool, calm and collected Tucked or Untucked for the discerning collector..... Not for me I'm sort of hooked on Eddie Bauer T-Shirts (when I can catch em on deep sale) + way too many Harley T Shirts favorite being one from Bastille HD in Paris. France not TN.
Sea Island Cotton used to be common in fine shirt makers, unfortunately not available too much anymore as that particular cotton plant is very rare now.

Daggy ? It's kinda a coverall term for somebody who misses the point, in this case "fashion wise" !

Ultimate case ? Flip flops ( THONGS here I kid you not !) with socks. OR sandals with socks..

Confession to be made. I have been known to cut around the house just so attired !

Thanks G man! Some daggy brothers at work are about to receive a backhanded compliment they won't understand. Sock monkey for the win.

"guess I have a general preferences not to spend more than $100 on any single item where I can and under $20 preferably. The weird thing is the more prosperous I have become the less I am willing to spend"
@Seb Lucas, this is called the "curmudgeon effect" and it happens irregardless of income bracket.

I pretty much buy everything from thrift shops where I can - except under garments and boots. I have 8 pairs of the same Blundstones. I just don't care for clothing enough to pay more or think about it any deeper. Been like that since I was in my 20's. But I should add in edits here that I grew up in the golden era of thrift shops when you could get savile row suits, 1940's hats and incredible clothes for a dollar an item. That's how I ended up here.

PN please define this word for me. I'm very eager to use it but want to be able to back it up with authority.

Best translation for a dag I've found is a schmuck. A gormless, unfashionable individual. Origin: a dag is the wool on a sheep that is clumped in dried sheep poo. Calling someone a dag is often partly affectionate tbe way you might call a silly freind a c**** in Glasgow.

My shirts are cheap (by choice) and I get holes in all of my jeans eventually, including selvedge. To me, my limited budget goes toward my main love, jackets. One track mind.

I'm interested that the custom fit t-shirt isn't a bigger part of this conversation. Because fit seems like such a crucial component. Maybe there just aren't enough offerings, or folks haven't tried it yet. But it sounds teriffic, assuming the quality is sufficiently high.

Sounds like "schlub" might be the better Yiddish translation. "Schmuck" is more of a guileless idiot who can be taken advantage of, used to be practically a curse word. Schlub is more the kind of guy wearing tevas and socks, or walking around with holes in his t-shirts and jeans ;)

Schlub - may be better but has connotations of boorishness which a dag is not generally. But a dag can be a schmuck too. :D Australians also use the word dickhead interchangeably with dag. It describes the kind of person who might enjoy Karaoke with Abba songs while wearing a cardigan. Shudder.

I see. So perhaps a dag is a schlubby schmuck, or maybe schmucky schlub. The answer turns on whether the primary quality of the dag is his idiotness or his unkemptness.

It's maybe more about a dag's ungainly nerdishness and gauche taste more than anything. They are not generally contemptible but affectionally laughed at for being unafraid to go out in public in plaid, for instance. There's something of a geek quality to many dags. They may well be educated and smart.

My Ts are usually bike themed, that is most have BSA, Triumph, Ogri, where I have been or am going(Faro bike fest for example) that sort of thing. Most of these are bought from events as above or shops etc and maybe some internet.
Plain Ts I usually get from cheaper stores for holidays etc so once they go a bit out of shape they end up as work shirts.
As for quality, the bike shirts come ready printed etc from a stall or shop and are probably made in China, Pakistan, India, you name it anywhere whoever makes it such as Fruit of the Loom etc. There may be quality made shirts out there but personally spending a £10er on a T is on the expensive side and I don't do reenactment type things where stitch counters will tell me my WWII rep T sleeves are sewn wrong but a certain make the correct item has them for 'only' £50 Quid a go.
As it's going under a jacket I could buy a new decent one if necessary and I always tuck in.
Cheers, J.

Hi all,

I've done a bit of poking around and haven't seen any thread covering folks preferred t-shirts for wearing under their jackets.

The specific issue I'm coming up against is that all of the t shirts I had before I started wearing leather run a bit longer than I'd prefer.

But I'd generally be interested to hear others' preferences.
I am a big fan of Costco house branded "Kirkland" T's. They come in white, black or grey and in Canada run about $4 each. They wear and look as good as T's that cost 5 times more.

If you want real madness check this out:

https://www.zimmerli.com/row_en/222-business-class-boxer-shorts-14033.html

$90 boxer shorts! Not sure who wears these and why, but who are we to judge?

I suppose someone who is rich and sees male underwear as women see lingerie. When you have a lot of money is very easy to go for the best of the best in every and each detail of your life that the rest of humans will see as crazy.

After all most people wouldn't understand our passion for leather jackets.

Personally when it comes to T-Shirs I've found that Eastman loopwheeled tees are fantastic but I prefer the Army one versus the Navy one that has gotten pretty loose. Haven't paid more than 20€ for mine, in fact last one was literally 5€ on Ebay.

I bought them cheap online to see what was my true size. If I buy a tee then I know my size but I'm not one to wear them often, I'm more of a shirt or polo in summer.
