I don’t normally go for dark Panama hats, but the seller was motivated.

I also picked this hat up. I’m sure it’s not my size, and currently a woman’s hat, but there is a lot of paja to work with.

A surprise find in the box I received this friday was this lovely panama. I have @M Hatman to thank for this. He was kind and generous enough to include it. It does need some TLC, but there's a good base to work from. So, thanks again, Mark!

Genuine Panama (that's all I have to go on). Woven brim at 6,5cm and crown at 11cm at the center dent. The pinch had a crack in the weave/fibers and the sweatband is pretty much toast. I was planning to send it off to Penumbra to be repaired, but she is a bit swamped in work, so I decided to have a go at it myself (fingers crossed). I've repaired the crack with some silicone sealant, after the superglue failed. The sealant worked very well (I've seen this trick used on modern panamas). All I need to now is install a new sweatband and maybe tidy up the pug style ribbon a bit and it's good to go.

Best of luck. I like the colors. It should make for a nice summer hat.

Nice shape to it. Your repair isn’t noticeable from the outside. What kind of silicone did you use?

I found the his hat for sale. All the seller knows is that it was “hand woven in Ecuador.””

Lacks the size and a solid brim that I’d need, but a neat hat all the same. Reasonably priced too. I guess there are women who like Panama hats but don’t care about sun protection.

Maybe the crown for a Duplex / Dualist?

I've seen hats like that in Ecuador, sold as hats for women, usually with a frilly bow around the crown and sometimes with a silk flower or two sewn onto the ribbon.

Well I guess it's each to their own, but that ribbon looks brilliant, just as it is. I love it.
My new Panama got more compliments than the old MG today. We were at a classic car show, and as usual, nobody wore a hat even though the sun was blazing hot. It wasn't so much the hat getting complimented as people saying, "I really should take a leaf out of your book and get some sun protection. Even though people are aware of sun burn they still don't cover up, and that includes shoulders too. There's going to be some very sore people tonight.

Going through my straws today (I THINK summer is now here) I found my Ecuadorian Supernatural panama fedora.......pretty well made,,,1 3/4 roan sweat backed by onionskin protector....2 3/4 brim....4 1/2 to the top front pinch, 5" on the sides.. Came with black pug.....I am showing hat with pug removed to better show the weave. Sweat is Stamped genuine panama and has Marshal Fields debossing. It has a really nice shape to it..

Very nice, Mark. I like the look of that crown patch a lot. All you need now is a supernatural pug.

Got this back today from Mike at Northwest Hats. As you can see I had him re-block, replace the sweat, and replace the ribbon. The treatment is a bit different and some won't like it. But it's exactly what I asked Mike to do and I absolutely love it.
