Very cool photo Alan. I love the texture on the surface. BestJoe

Very cool, nice surface detail.

Thank you both. Years ago I used to shoot the moon a lot, but I have been a sun guy since. You might enjoy cruising around the surface in this image, which is too large to upload to the group:

Sometimes it's nice to step back a little and enjoy the bigger picture.

clear skies!

Man, that is some great stuff Alan !!
I’ve been looking through those articles and had fun searching for Ina with the Granddaughter.

I used to have a 14” Celestron but had a tougher and tougher time finding dark enough skies around here, so ended up selling it. Definitely a fascinating hobby and/or profession !

Thanks for the link.

This was my blood moon. Just taken with a Panasonic LUMIX compact super zoom with Leica lens.

Very nice. I recently purchased a Sigma FP L-mount camera as a lightweight body for my Leica M lenses. Look forward to trying it mounted to one of my telescopes as well.

Thanks very much... I live in the city and deep sky stuff under city lights is not any fun. The sun and the moon, however, are a blast. You might enjoy some of my recent images here:

Let me know what your granddaughter thinks of them!

Holy wow Alan! Those images are absolutely stunning!

I have one question though. The images showing the surface of the sun with a small blue planet behind.. are those composites showing earth.. or is it another planet?

Best,
Joe

Very cool. Having worked in a camera store for many years... that old German glass still holds a place in my heart. So sharp.. so precise.

Thanks!

Just an earth sized disk placed to show the scale of the solar features.

Wow, great images of the Sun Alan ! Lylah couldn't believe it looked like that. Thanks for sharing.

I may have to get another scope since she is showing an interest.
What's the minimum size Schmidt-Cassegrain you would recommend for some decent solar images ?
