What Jacket Are You Wearing Today?

Eh it's no big deal. When you put yourself out there as much as I do, backlash is inevitable.

Why do you say so? I'm not disagreeing, but I'm quite curious.

I think the fedoras fit you a lot better and I passionately dislike those hats, is all. :)

Is it something related to your blog / Insta? Oh, actually never mind, I shouldn't pry.

Dude to be honest I think the criticism you received on the other forums is mostly fair. It’s not a backlash just people giving you advice. A part of your internet presence feels a bit staged and calculated. I like reading your blog that something nice you do I think. Posting the same fit pic across all forums feels instead a bit like a chore you have to do to make your presence felt across the different sub-communities within the heritage menswear broader one. Also, you say you dislike moc toes for instance but then you post pictures wearing them on Instagram just to get likes? I don’t know man but that is bound to attract criticism imho. Anyway you have amassed a great amount of quality gear and sure you have a distinctive look.

Lol we’ve got to keep us entertained during these strange times!

But seriously I don’t think much really happened. Dude got some fair (at least I think so) comments from members on SuFu and Denimbro. Here is all praises normally in other forums I think people can be a bit more direct. I don’t see the issue as long as one does it in a polite way. I’m not an active member there but I do enjoy some denim nerdyness too and for all things denim those are the places. Moreover denim is cheaper than leather! :D

I don't care but my guess is internet bullshit, fueled by middle aged men with nothing better to do, acting like entitled little babies while criticizing others when they really need to take a long hard look at themselves.

Kind of describes most BS on the internet.

Are there many middle aged men on those sites?

SuFu can be kinda bad that way, though... Fair criticism is one thing and I'd sure prefer it if more people stated their mind here though we're not that hard-core about out entire outfit & style like some of those guys, but I am lurking a coupla threads there and on Style Forum and SuperFuture crowd can get a bit nasty. Like, the long time members there would occasionally gang up on someone new posting their styles and spew out comments such as "Don't do that ever again" or "Please leave". Not very welcoming.

On the other hand, many of these guys will then post selfies in the WAYWT where they look literally like everyone on the street. Not really sure what's so special about their gear that whatever... As long as we feel happy about our style.

But I get some great inspiration there so can't say anything against the place though yeah...

Styleforum is pretty constructive that way too though when someone wears something a certain way, they will refer to it as a "TFL fit" in a negative context which I find funny.

A lot of other places look at TFL negatively because there are a many people here who are interested in only a certain aspect (jacket or hat) and not an entire cohesive look so they can have somewhat unbalanced fits. Also many here are new to trying to dress a certain way and haven't figures out their sizing and how to combine things in a way that will look good. It's a learning process and some of us start here because we enjoy hats or jackets and then move on to developing an actual style of our own.

TFL is good in that it's very welcoming and doesn't have the nastiness of many of the other forums out there. Many of those other forums chase people away before they have a chance to really learn to enjoy clothing and fashion.

The other forums can be useful however to gain a more critical view of how you're putting outfits together since they'll be more likely to tell you when an outfit looks bad. You have to be thick skinned about how you respond though and also take into account that the general likes of each of those forums like may not be the style you are going for.

Style forum I’d agree it’s mostly fashion stuff and there are some people who are just nasty for the sake of it. SuFu and Denimbro I think are pretty great instead for denim related stuff and there are people there who know a great lot about the history of denim and workwear in general, if that’s what interest you. There are some very nice threads over there.

There is TFL as a whole and then there is the Outerwear section which is basically a leather jacket forum with a mind (if not a body) of its own.

From what I read other forums often recognise the fact that the ultimate internet leather jacket knowledge resides here. They don’t just make fun of the TFL :D

Posting in these other sites probably means arguing with hipsters; something I'd like to avoid like the plague (err or COVID19)... :)

I’ve never been on Sufu or styleforum, but at Denimbro there is a ton of great info! And a lot of $$ for those great Japanese goods. I’d be in way over my head.

As a forum, TFL is IMO one of the most successful ones. While a lot of the old members have gone, we get a lot of new blood. I see lots of other forums having issues when new members trying to join in on any conversations. The existing members treat those forums like exclusive clubs. I am not saying it is right or wrong to do so just that those are in fact exclusive clubs but not forums. I have seen how some of those forums simply faded without injection of new blood when eventually a lot of the old members turned to new things.

Does get tiresome though when some always offer compliments even if a new jacket fit is glaringly wonky or honestly not a good look for the person. I think honesty should be most important rather than always complimenting any look just to be nice.

However, an honest opinion can be given in a nice way rather than presented in a way seeming like an attack. Such as: ' The cap would look so much better on you if it you'd give it a more lived in shape and perhaps wear at a slight tilt instead of a straight on new hat appearance that stands out'.

Listing what you don't like about various postings on other forums by a member is a form of getting personal and over doing just to create ( as you say ) drama, IMO. Like an attempt to discredit in a way....and for what..just the drama.

No idea. I have no clue what sites they are even talking about. I just know how people act on the internet. I am a moderator on another forum and the BS we deal with from grown men, hiding behind a keyboard is unreal. Typical bitterness, rudeness, hazing new members ect ect
