Congrats,she certainly appears to have the touch.My daughter just finished making this one for a friend of hers. I'm pretty pleases considering this is only the second hat she's created! I think she may be passing me in abilities in the not too distant future!

this arrived today .. Tryfon Hatters, Tacoma, WA. seller thought 50s or 60s but i really haven't a clue. it cleaned up ok, western weight, dark brown. i'm thinking i'm going to leave as an open crown.

Rick, I have recently been reading "Wildwood Wisdom" by Ellsworth Jaeger again, written in 1945 a few yrs after Jaeger had spent 20 yrs exploring the Western US & western Canada. I found this paragraph & plate illustration substantiating the above pic & what I thought to be true:![]()

While traveling among the western Plains Indians and among the Navajos and Apaches I noticed a high-crowned, flat-brimmed hat called the "Tommy Grimes" was commonly worn.
Some of the later Grimes were 7-1/4" crowns. This 7-1/4 was featured in 1936 catalogs even though Grimes had died in 1934.With a 7” crown and 4 1/2’ brim, the Tommy Grimes is some hat. Nice to know where the “Navajo brim” originated.
