What a great find. That does look like an awesome old bowler. Hope you enjoy it and post some head shots when you get it cleaned up. It's sanitized, after all!

Success at last! Looking good, Brent.

After some recent disappointments this Stetson Royal lived up to its billing! 2 1/2” wide brim and 5 1/2” open crown. Overwelt brim with three rows of stitching. Plastic liner cover, stitched in liner, and 2” wide ribbon. I’m thinking mid 1950s.

Nice find, Dave! My first guess on its age puts it in the 1920s, based solely on the frayed ribbon which was popular at that time.
The union label details should help you narrow that down. Googoo that thread, and you’ll see!

I expect to see you cruising up and down Route 95 wearing this one, sir!!

Standard disclaimer; I was wrong once before...

Today Sunday the weather and mood were suitable for shooting some new hats.
These are the latest arrivals before the European closure for Covid 19. Both come from France and arrived two months and half ago.
Flechet H 5.jpg

The first is a Flechet "Diplomatique" or homburg. Size 55cm.
Flechet H 6.jpg

I bought it without knowing anything else that was "special" for the lining and the brand, never seen in the Flechet production.
Flechet H Interno totale.jpg

I have many and nobody has these "signs", but above all for the color of the felt.
Flechet H 3.jpg
You can see it in reflected light being a mixture of brown / blue with a dark indigo ribbon.
Flechet H 1.jpg

The shapes are classic with 6 cm brim. and the crown at 12 cm.
Flechet H 7.jpg

It has no defect, except the small "butterfly" to indicate the back of the hat is missing.
Flechet H 2.jpg

The felt is very soft and very easy to handle.
Un classique français intemporel!

Today sunny Sunday after a week of intermittent rain. The Italian spring is in full swing, you can see it from the greens of the leaves of the wisteria that has already bloomed and faded. These are the latest arrivals before the European closure for Covid 19. Both come from France.
MorVel 2.jpg

The second is a Morreton "Velrex". Size 59 cm.
MorVel 4.jpg

Very difficult to find already as normal hats, the Morreton brand had in this case a special plus: it was in black velour
MorVel 3.jpg

I had glimpsed some flaws in the seller's horrible photos, but I decided that giving it a chance was important. Upon arrival it turned out better than I expected, especially the velour which is very thin and malleable
MorVel 1.jpg

The hat has some trace of moths above the crown, but overall it is very beautiful. What puzzles me is that it looks completely new
MorVel Interno totale.jpg

The hat is superbly finished

The semi-shiny black velvet felt is very soft and very easy to handle.
An unexpected arrival for my French collection:)

Resistol Beaver “20” Hand Creased. Nice sage green felt with 6 1/2” open crown and 3 1/2” raw edge brim. The hat had a lot of taper, so I used a Hat Shapers cattlemen crease block to shape the “crease” of the crown and then slid in a straight-sided wood block that Bowen gifted me. I Pushed the wood block in 2/3 of the way and let it dry overnight. It removed most of the taper and now I have a crown shape I like. It wanted a mule kick so it got that too.
