Don’t think there’s an episode of Wells Fargo I haven’t seen. Dale sported some mighty fine boots on that show. Period correctness wasn’t a thing then. Great pic.
About 10 yrs ago now, 3-4 yrs before he died, a lot of his stuff started showing up on the market. He had a ranch in NE OK & a home in Hollywood somewhere. I remember some of the boots hitting the market, but I believe he was only a size 9 or so.

This is an acquaintance I’ve know for several years. He works for Yosemite National Park and runs snow removal equipment in the winter. In the summer he runs mules into the backcountry where motorized vehicles are not allowed. These pack mules are the only way to get provisions into remote outposts. He’s also a regular competitor in the Bishop Mule Days.

I sure enjoyed these photos, Brent, thanks for sharing. It sounds like a very interesting life for someone who's not afraid of hard work!

No "taco" brims on any of those hats!

Great documentation BB. Chief Naiche doesn't look that old for a Chief.

PS: just read his father was Cochise & he was the last hereditary Chief of the Chiricahua Apaches.

Thanks, HJ and for the additional pics and documentation as well. I’ve posted a few pics on here before of Geronimo from his time in AL but this was the first time I’ve come across one of the Chiefs together.

The tv show Gray Ghost with Tod Andrews in the lead may have been some of the worst tv ever. Even as a kid I couldn’t stand it. I’m sure Mosby deserved better.

I have a photo similar to this of my Dad when a young lad... I will have to find it and post it...

DadE.jpg

I figure he was maybe 6 years old... I remember stories he told of his wagon, goat, and dog... to find this image many years later was truly a gift...

James Jim Crow Chiles (1833 - 1873) (son of James Chiles, Mexican War hero, MO State Representative & MO Senator). Fierce fighter who rode with Quantrill's guerrillas under Anderson's command, joined Gen JO Shelby's command after Anderson's death in 1864. Uncle to be to a future President of the United States, Harry S. Truman. Post War Chiles moved to Sherman, TX & opened a Saloon & gambling hall where he was accused of killing 2 men in an argument. He returned to Kansas City, then Independence, MO where he again opened a Saloon & gambling hall. He was accused of killing 9 more men & wanted for killing 2 others when he was killed on the Independence square by Deputy Marshall James Peacock after wounding Peacock. Peacock managed to survive.

Sometimes the story is spun that Marshall Peacock was then killed by Chiles' brother Elijah (sometimes the spin claims Elijah was Chiles' son) & Elijah was then killed himself by Peacock's son Charles. Simply not true as Peacock's 1914 obituary proves.

James Jim Crow Chiles' younger brother, Harrison was repeatedly hung within inches of ending his life as a 13 yr old boy in an effort by Federal troops to learn the whereabouts of his brother. It was his uncle Harrison Chiles that Harry S. Truman was named after.

Before President Truman's decision to drop the bomb leading to a decisive victory over the Japanese, some of his critics & political pundits of the day sometimes referred to Truman as the second Confederate President based on his ancestry to the Chiles family.
