what law that force you to make the entire jacket from same thickness of leather? just food for thought

I am kind of relieved for you, to be honest. It didn’t seem like the jacket was going to live up to your expectations. I’m glad that you and Alan came to that agreement before you ended up with a jacket you didn’t like.

Smart move from Alan, better lose a potential client than gain a customer you can't satisfy...

HH, in the guitar world people have been using brass add ons to add weight for decades.
Someone one day decided that a heavier guitar sang better, and they started making heavy brass bridges, heavy headstock clamps, i even saw people adding brass or lead weights in their control cavity.

Have you thought about having some brass weights sewn into the lining?
Maybe add a layer of lead in the pockets, go crazy, have a jacket fully lead lined, it would protect you from radiations and would definitely be above 8lb!

You beat me to it. I was thinking of lead fishing sinkers as zipper pulls. Oh wait, that wouldn't work, would it? You can always put them in the pockets.

No point in discussing any further but I was really looking forward to seeing how this would turn out. I’ll admit a good part of that curiosity was in fact morbid.

I was sayin' all along HH shoulda went for a chainmail or an actual suit of armor right away. He's tryna get something out of leather that leather can't provide. They can barely squeeze out enough ounces for a pair of boots to be consistently heavy, let alone an entire leather jacket. @Hh121 , ask Schott to send you one of these bad bois.

yeah, it is hilarious for you guys, that's why you keep coming back right?? unfortunately not for me.

Well then I apologize for making a joke if this stupid jacket business upsets you that much, I really do. I didn't think you'd be taking this thing so seriously. It's just a leather jacket, man. I'm all for the heaviest leather and you know that but I also know it's a ridiculous fixation that nobody can and should be taking seriously. But okay, wish you all the luck in getting... Whatever it even is that you're after. I don't really know, to be honest, that's why I said you maybe don't even want a leather jacket.

Hh,
You took us all on a 20 page romp following your quest to build an incredibly impractical jacket and then pulled the plug just as we were getting near the end. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for us to joke with you in a good-natured fashion after all of that. That’s where I think Monitor was coming from, no harm intended. If I’m wrong about that though, and the jokes come across as insults, then I apologize.

@Monitor is a good guy, it was just an attempt at humor...I hope you dont take that too seriously. If you did he apologized. Sorry this didnt work out for you, glad you figured it out before you spent all kinds of money. Smart thinking. Since you made the right call as others have said you should joke about, it is just a jacket, nothing life or death, and since you didnt spend the money and make a mistake no loss at all. I was thinking about this too...weight and thickness dont always equate So when you keep thinking about how it cant be 4oz and weight so and so. Im not sure thats accurate. I mean the actual thickness who knows, Im sure companies measure differently and once somethings been packed, shipped, handled and worked maybe it loses some of that thickness. We also know plenty of companies hype their thickness and its just a lie or exaggeration. But the last point I was thinking and wanted to make is that some leathers are plenty thick but very spongey and light weight. A lot of Moose and Buffalo hides are like this. They can be monster thick, but fairly light, spongey and have lots of drape. So in the future I would keep this in mind as well. Anyone here reading this as well. My uncle that makes the moccasins Ive watched him make a million pairs and poked around his hides. Ive seen plenty super thick slabs youd swear had to weigh a ton just to kind of float away. Ive also seen hides that look thin and yet are so dense they weigh more.

I wonder if the original pin from the cap of the snap is long enough to pierce through, probably on the pocket flap and epaulette with 2x leather you need conchos like on biker wallet and small screw to function as snap cap.

no, they can't do it, even 6oz leather is not available because they "gave it to their friends" due to it is too challenge to work with,I think I know what it means.
I am not upset now I think it's hilarious, time to move on.
