Got the Bushman earlier in the week. Been messing around with a bunch of different looks. Just for fun. Probably will settle on a diamond tight pinch. But tbh, I might not steam anything in for a while. It seems to be holding the creases/pinches pretty well.

Hi
What does the top of the hat in the picture I left look like? That's kind of warped from the front, might keep people away from you in the forest.... Especially with a nice snake hatband.

I have an Everything-Australian pre-creased Adventurer. I'm sure it's been pointed out before here, but this hat has a much bigger brim (80 x 70) than the Hats-by-the-hundred one which is listed as 70x60 (That's less width than the Stylemaster's 63!) The one I have is the same size as the open crown DM Adventurer. I got myself confused when I forgot where I got mine. I really like the Everything Australian version's dimensions. I wish it was available in more colors. To add to the confusion, the Fed IV is listed as 70x63 - but at least that one has a different name.

Now that I have a Campdraft, how does the open crown work? Will it keep the bash after it is moistened? Or, do owners store the crown open and bash it each time it is worn? Or, other?

Thanks.
I used steam to shape mine into a fedora style, however, in retrospect, I wish I had just left it open crown so I could change the shape up once in a while. It seems as though it holds it shape pretty well, but you will probably get several differing opinions on this. Since steaming the shape I originally bashed, I can't get it to go back to open crown or any other shape. It always morphs back into the original bash pretty quickly, and I have tried several times.

I agree. Prefer to leave open, at least first several wears until you get a sense of what you want. I don't have a Camp, but have Fed 4, Bushman, and Sidney. I steamed in a high tight pinch on the Sidney and I like it, but I prefer being able to mess around. The creases won't be as tight as if you steam, at least not until that thick akubra felt breaks down some, but it works.

What I did do on my Bushman, and even debating whether I should have done that, was steam in a mark on the front and back center. Just a little dent since most of my creases end up being center dent or tear drop. But again, probably not necessary.

Does anyone happen to know an approximate cost for shipping from Australia to the eastern US? I was aiming to order an Akubra from Everything Australian, but due to the pandemic, they are not taking international orders. David Morgan has the hat for about $60 more, plus they don't have the color I wanted, although I could settle on another if I get too impatient. I was just trying to figure out if it was worth pursuing, or if I'm better off waiting.

No idea sorry, I wonder why they aren't shipping OS. There are lots of places that are shipping OS so I have no idea why, which hat 'n colour were you looking at. Some colours/styles are custom so you may only be able to get it through the stores with stock.

I'm liking the Cattleman in bran.

Everything Australian has it for around $100 depending on the day, plus shipping. David Morgan sells the Cattleman for $160 plus shipping, plus they don't offer the color bran. Fawn would be my second choice, but I already have an Akubra in fawn and would prefer something else. Hats by the Hundred has bran comparable to EA, but I've heard many negative reviews and am reluctant to go with them. I've had enough issues getting the hat that I've requested lately.

Nice lid and one of my fav Akubra's for under the sun, Akubra's bran is a really good light colour. I was going to say that model should be of avail anywhere that sell's Akubra's pretty much. I've never had an issue with Hats by the Hundred myself but I've only bought a couple of things from them.

EA has a good price on a few Akubra's atm, no idea why they aren't selling OS. Hope you find it in the right colour/size, someone will have it.

Standard shipping from The Hattery in New South Wales to California is $29.50 Australian. Don’t know if that helps you. For some reason The Hattery is still shipping internationally.

My only reservation with bran is that I'm afraid it will show dirt easily. I plan on using it as a work hat.

I've seen the Hattery pop up in the search, but wasn't sure where they stacked as far as being a reputable source. I'll give them a look. Thanks Brent.

The Hattery has been around forever, I lived up in the Blue Mountains for a while when I was young as a kid. Last time I was up that way would be 17 years or so maybe and I reckon the Hattery was about back then.

As to Bran getting dirty...nah and you can always clean them. My oldest work hat is bran, too hot here for dark colours when working. Mind you it went through a kind of harsh cleaning routine lol. Slightly red cast to the colour here from the bricks

Hats Direct AKA The Hattery is a very legitimate business with great service. They are also the exclusive source for some Akubra hats.
Well I just had a major bout of cranial flatulence. Turns out I've been to that site numerous times. I've looked at the Fed IV a few dozen times. Oddly enough I never pulled the trigger. Also, DM charges $135 for the Cattleman instead of the $160 I stated earlier.

Oddly enough, after seeing the Blue Mountains hat in bluegrass green, it's got me second guessing the Cattleman.

That's a colour I'm yet to get a Akubra in, not that I don't like the colour just I'm not sure it likes me lol.

Edit: Just had a look at the Blue Mountains model in the bluegrass, nice looking lid. If you can't make a choice between the 2 maybe you'll just have to get both eventually hehehe.

You're definitely on to something.

I'm with you on the bluegrass green. I like the color, but not so sure how it would look on me.

Well if I could afford both lids there would be my excuse for getting both, lol. They are both similar yet different hats, both good quality and everyday usable hats.

Blue Mountains is center crease and the Cattleman a tear drop, I'd go hot weather work hat the Cattleman Bran colour and then back it up with the Bluegrasss Blue Mountains for warm weather work 'n play, lil dressier all rounder.

Looking at the Bluegrass colour, I really, really do like it. Well if I didn't talk you into both I think I just convinced myself I need a new lid in Bluegrass lol. Damn it!
