You also have to be careful with wooden floors, I have lulu plates (yes, this how they are called, no idea why!) installed on most of my dress shoes and boots and I immediately take them off at my doorstep.

There you go!

As soon as I wrote the above, I knew I'd get called out bc I have a couple pair of dress shoes and Chukka boots with gy welted danite soles. I goofed! Also, arent those 2 pair of Carminas rubber half-soles?

If I remember well you own both Carmina's and Alden's? How would you compare them quality wise? I own 4 pairs of Alden (3 shell and a snuff suede) and I have been considering a Carmina dress boot in whiskey shell as my next major buy.

Got a new pair of Clarks Desert Treks today, used to have a pair in brown suede and they were like walking on air. Looking forward to breaking these fellas in this weekend!

Just don’t let them sit unused for a long time. Not that most people would haha. I had a pair that I wore probably once a week for a good 5-6 months. Then I moved and they sat in a closet for like 7 years. When I finally remembered I had them and dug them out the sole was like cement. Couldn’t break them in or loosen the soles up and gave them away. Sad, because they were super comfortable when I first got them.

Huh, that's good to know. I wonder what happens to the crepe sole to cause that? I'm a dyed in the wool Clarks man and I always wear mine to complete destruction, luckily.

they look fantastic!

For years, I always wanted a pair of Western boots. Maybe that started after seeing a photo book of Iggy and the Stooges playing in the 70s. But now that I live in Texas, I’d feel like another ‘fake cowboy’ like you see here everywhere.

These are basic enough I feel like profile wise with pants similar to my other boots. I do think I would like a nice exotic western boot too

I don’t really know 100% but I read somewhere that water could have gotten in them and then did damage internally from not being properly dried. Or freezing in the winter. Not literally being in a house but cold enough. Or Air damage from actually not being wet at all sitting in a closet. In any case they literally were not worn once for like I said 7 years. So if you wear yours regularly I wouldn’t worry about. I’ve owned other Clark’s and never had that issue.

I do. I think they’re very similar quality wise (leather, stitching, finishing, welt, etc). I prefer the profile of carmina’s sleeker European lasts, but my wide foot prefers Alden’s generous trubalance and Barrie lasts. I’ve eyed carmina’s shell boots and wouldn’t hesitate to buy, but at that price I’m torn between those and some Vass “Valways” or Enzo Bonafes. Good luck!

so cool! Congrats on getting these, killer combo!
Yeah def a nice quality build boot for the price. I still gotta have my local boot guy work the heels as he does almost every pair. I am pretty crazy about the heels being tight and even all the way around lol

Those chelsea's look great!
How'd they size you?
I have a sidezip on order but I'm a little scared of sizing.

How's the shinki horse butt? I've been wanting to get a pair out of that for hide.

Thanks, the Chelsea boots they make are nice and sleek with a comfy last. What leather did you decide on for your order? Is the side zip boot on the same last as the Chelsea? If so I would go with your usual size but if it's based on the service boot last then size down.

Getting a waxed reversed maryam horsebutt on the service boot last. I liked how that all brown pair with the unstructured toe looked so I got the same last.

Shinki horse butt is great. I love the color and the crazy grain it has. It is stiffer than the cloe and maryam horse butt. I think the indonesian makers are out of the brown, viberg calls it color 4/ oiled natural, but they still have the teacore black.
I would love a jacket in the same color.

Is that a new leather offering? Or are they just waxing the underside of the regular horse butt? I didn't know you can pick a different last and pair it with another upper. Sucks they don't do half sizing, that would make a big difference in fit.

Got it, nice to know that viberg uses the same hide too. I think the brown looks better than the teacore black so I'll wait for next time. Yes, those oil tanned medium brown shade is so nice looking, I see some of those jackets every now and then at the what jacket are you wearing thread.
