Looks like a nice tea-core leather to me. Doesn’t horween has a similar one? Milan or something like that…

Horween Lux is super fast to patina in this way.

^yep that one. Think you end up with a similar effect. One day I like it, another day I feel it’s a bit much and I’d rather get a nice brown jacket. Not 100% convinced.

Here's one that I keep waiting to see in the wild. Takes the whole elongated torso thing to another level.

Or for a lot less money and a much cooler story, you could get the real deal in the classifieds:

That is more interesting in a way, it is a coat with typical MC detailing, not a jacket anymore. As an experiment it is interesting. But I think it would be more interesting with buttons instead of that long zip.

I find the second lower set of pockets to be an... ahem... interesting detail, especially on the wearer's right, just below the other handwarmer pocket.

Agreed, it is completely off. I was just using it as an inspiration to visualise something that could be fun :)

In all truth I'd way prefer that over the Perfecto-style jackets I was seeing around a lot a couple of years ago that were all about 29". This one looks like it's an intentionally longer coat, and the addition of the extra set of pockets helps balance it. Those 29 inchers, ugh.... just looked all out of whack, the jacket equivalent of those attempts to fake a pair of proper, on the natural waist rise trousers where they just add depth to a modern pattern and leave the stubby zip on it...

The issue with FCL is that they try to do too many patterns, so none of their patterns turns out to be good. Jack of all trades, master of none.

Most of their leather options are black, and fast-fading Teacore, which isn’t well-liked around here.

Their resale value is too high, which is probably due to heavily marketing and not reflective of the value offered at the high price they charge. At their price point, better alternative options exist and would blow them out of the water.

Painting with too broad a brush here. Saying an entire catalog is bad patterns is wild. They have some funky ones for sure, but no one criticizes bad schott/aero/lewis/vanson/etc patterns because there are a handful that we like and talk about. They also have a good mix of teacore and sturdier pigment finishes. This is a brand that's put out a lot of patterns and leathers for years, so saying they're all x is silly, when we're talking about season after season.

Tell me more about what marketing you've seen that is supposedly driving the resale price up. Commercials? When's the last time you saw a fine creek ad or product placement? Any menswear influencers getting paid to endorse them you can name?

The reality is they hold value well in the Japanese market, and in the US there just aren't that many floating around for resale, plus if they are here they've been through middlemen shops and tariffs taking a cut and driving the price up.

It’s actually the lack of good patterns that FCL has put out that is a cause for concern. Instead of putting the burden on me, why don’t you name a couple of good FCL patterns?

The one influencer that I often see FCL jackets on is yusuke_kawai_danny on Instagram. Otherwise, most of the FCL marketing I’ve seen in the States is through the middlemen, like you said. FCL in the States is everywhere, in all the retailers that carry leather jackets: Self Edge, Butterscotch, etc. It is becoming the Rolex of leather jackets. It’s not like Rolex runs ads all the time, it’s just that it’s everywhere and everyone knows about it. Its price reflects that.

You are making the assertion that every pattern is bad. I'm saying they have some good, some bad, and some Japanese body type or market focused that aren't to western taste.

That guy is either one of their employees or a vendor, his page is all product ads. Its not like they're paying Jake or denim dentist to market their stuff.

'Everywhere' is doing a lot of work there. A few of the niche high end menswear shops have have few dozen jackets? Now compare to schott.

Are they 'heavily marketed' or just have a strong brand like Rolex? I don't think you can have it both ways.

LOL. Back in the day when I even had enough care to comment on this brand. Are they still in business or have all the mulhollands been sold out in the classifieds?

I rescind my apology to now long gone member @superflous for both my title and characterization of this brand.

I was right. He knows it too as he sold the leather rectangle pictured on him in this thread…..Or at least he attempted to.

Their jackets that are a leather version of a cloth jacket are generally pretty nice.

The Leon and the weird egg shaped ones are awful but the Type IIs and field jackets and stuff are cool.
