I was passing through one of the local hat stores a few days ago, and the owner said, I have a new hat from Biltmore that may be of interest to you, and it comes with a great hat box! I said skeptically ok, let me take a look as I have reservations about Biltmores made in the USA.
The hat has a classic Biltmore block and bow. A 2 & 1/4 inch brim and labeled as a limited edition. Nutria felt and a pretty sporty hatbox. Needles to say I couldn’t resist.

I do not have much experience with Nutria. It feels a little rough, almost wool-like, yet durable. The hat itself is well-made and comfortable on the head. This is the only “ Limited Edition” Biltmore, and Nutria felt I am aware of since they moved from Canada to Texas.

Very interesting hat, Reggie. I’ve handled some vintage nutria Stetsons that were on the coarse side too. Most of my modern 100% nutria customs are very soft with a great hand. I don’t know if it’s the nature of the fur or the manufacturing process that is primarily responsible for the finish. Your hat looks great on you.

It arrived! The black Knox bowler that was a late week impulse buy on eBay. I can’t find a thing wrong with it aside from some liner discoloration from age and a bit of green corrosion on the metal thing in back. Thanks to Brent I know how to get rid of that before it damages the felt. The Saks box has obviously taken a beating, but it’s got a cool factor and I think I can patch it back up.

Other than that it’s better than I ever expected. The felt looks brand new, the ribbon is great other than a little wrinkle, and the band looks barely worn. I can’t seem to take pictures that do it justice.

I don’t have a clue how old this hat is but I think it’s a safe bet it‘s the oldest one I own. It fits my 7 3/8 head too. I may make a few careful tweaks to it with some steam, but maybe not. I’m extremely happy.

I can see why you couldn't walk out the store without that one, Reggie. Nice buy, especially with that box.

Love the tie btw.

A Borsalino in a classic Americxan style; what's not to like. Brent @deadlyhandsome is going for the "enabler of the year" award this year!

Thanks Joe!

Cool Saks' box too despite the damage.

Thank you Steve - Yes I think the box just needs a little attention and and it'll be presentable. I may check out youtube for ideas.

Cool find and you know how to rock it.

Thanks!

It makes you look very cerebral, as if you need that hat to contain your extra-large brain.

Wow thanks! I've been told in the past that I've got a big head, even a thick head, but I think this may be the first time anybody's suggested I may have a big brain. I appreciate that very much! :D

I don't have a huge experience with Nutria felt. I have a modern Winchester nutria which is, next to FEPSA beaver, the nicest felt I have ever worked on. I have a few vintage nutria Stetson felts and it does vary from coarse to wonderfully soft hand vintage feel.
